Did Newton plagiarized Leibniz's work and use his position as President of the Royal Society to solidify his standing in history? Leibniz's notation is easier to use.

Newtonor Leibniz was a dirty copycat.
Archimedes did.
EOT.
I think it is accepted that they both independently discovered calculus. Leibniz should have published his findings earlier.
Can't Leibniz just be happy with being known for inventing binary notation and a forerunner of the modern calculator? Geez
Oh poor Leibniz! Watson and Crick and Wilson stole Rosalind Franklin's Nobel prize and you won't hear any LR misogynists bemoaning that injustice.
given both Leibnitz and Newton are direct descendants the the first human beings in Kenya.

Regrettably, Gottfried is of the deceased persuasion, and has trouble being happy about anything these days.
But he doesn't complain, either.
Runningtrailrunner is correct. They both did it independently and it was discovered not so much invented.
Calculus is a huge body of knowledge that no one person can claim to have invented (or discovered) all on their own. Newton/Leibniz each independently discovered the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, an important step in the development of calculus, but not everything.
To say that one person invented calculus is historical myth-making. I'm not a math historian, but I'd say that Eudoxus, Archimedes, Weyerstrass, and probably several others all have at least as good a claim to the invention of calculus as N/L.

Respect
Dont even try to get that started. Rosalind Franklin couldnt have won the Nobel Prize with Watson, Crick, and Wilkins in 1962 seeing as she had been dead since '58 and they dont give Nobel prizes to dead people.
Actually, Newton and Leibnitz are both descendants of the group of proto-humans that left Africa 60-80,000 years ago. These proto-humans continued to evolve after they left Africa and eventually became modern humans. Other people from this group include Michelangelo, Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, etc...
The other group of proto-humans, which stayed behind in Africa and thus did not evolve further, are the ancestors of today's Africans. People from this group can be seen at:
Not sure about the whole Newton-Leibniz thing, but if you want to see the French and Swiss go at it just bring up l'Hôpital's rule next time you're out at the bar.

Exactly.
For $100 Newton and Leibnitz's DNA can be decoded.
As for every human being who has ever lived and will ever be born, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, Newton and Leibnitz has a direct link to the same two parents who lived in the Rift Valley, Kenya, 60,000 years ago.

Did calculus exist before anyone thought of it? That seems like an interesting philosophical question.
