It seems clear that in 2008, they went as far down the list in replacements as allowed Has.ay in the race..Even though Hasay and another athlete were added, they then claimed it was too late to add to the field even though the athlete you mentioned knew there was another scratch. As it happens, Hasay's case is another good illustration of someone who otherwise wouldn't have been in the field having an important race. Besides making finals, running at Trials sealed Jordan's decision to go to Oregon, and therefore had a huge impact on her running career - something to note for those in the 'who cares about athletes who are 30th anyway running" crowd. |

wejo, sorry for the re-post but I feel this should be debated. If I was Verzbicas' parents I would look for an appellate attorney/immigration attorney and file a petition for a Writ of Certiorari for his immigration status to be immediately updated. His case is unique, he is young (time is running out for his opportunity) Lukas Verzbicas wants to compete for the United States Olympic team, he needs to get somebody, even the ACLU, to expedite his status. If I was in his shoes (sorry for the pun) I'd get the ball rolling on this -extraordinary case-. |

I too feel Lukas has extenuating circumstances that merit a writ. He's been more than a model citizen yet the Americanization should be retroactive to when came to the USA given his earned extenuating circumstances as a youthful athlete. To give rise to the millions of Obama youth! |

Agree. You would go to a national meeting only to be excluded by the cronies and not allowed to vote. It would be a huge waste of time, effort and money.

I just watched A Few Good Men for the first time on AMC. I found the story pretty predictable, like I had just read about the same thing happening over the last week. |

Asked JC about why some athletes like Abdi were allowed to run, his response to me: "HAve a nice day" |

I know several other people have commented on your post as well, but it is really sad that someone thinks this way and doesn't understand that most of the people at the top were at one point working their way up. The national championships are just as much about helping up and coming athletes to develop and gain experience as it is to choose the national team. I am sure many young athletes have been turned off by the sport and given up because they were denied the right to compete at the national championships for no reason. If you are in the top 32 in the country and there are lanes open, why would there be an logical reason not to let them compete. |

Anyone who knows John Chaplin knows he is corrupt to the soul. At the USA meet I kept asking everyone about why these situations happen, and everyone kept telling me its because of Chaplin. Mike McNees is the acting CEO of USATF. Sit down and write an e-mail to Mike (a former Indiana hurdler) and tell him how corrupt the system is. Copy Stephanie Hightower. Trust me if enough folks put it in writing at least it will bring it to the level of the problem being debated. Copy David Woods who writes for the Indianapolis Star and is one of the best track writers in the country. Its tragic that young athletes get screwed over by Chaplin every year. |

I have written Craig M. and Doug L. and they both gave me the same stock response (paraphrased). "That's very interesting, I will take it under advisement. Currently we vote internally on who gets to be an officer with us and this is how our by-laws are set up. Thank you for your concern here, and please continue to support our sport!" So that option has proven ineffective. |

Brian Gagnon, one of the 800 runners kept out of the championships, just posted his testimonial on his team's blog. http://in-the-arena-itanhteam.blogspot.com/ |

To vote you need to be a delegate from your association, or if you are an elite athlete, get involved with AAC. So start by attending Association meetings.[/quote] Even if your assn selects you the "HomeOffice" can decertify your assn if they get wind a troublemaker has been selected to go. |
