Ghost - Unchained Melody with a hat tip to home made pottery.
You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling
Mrs. Robinson
Flashdance-What a Feeling Irene Cara
Love is All Around
The Pixies "Where is my Mind?" from the end scene in Fight Cluv
also, the cover of "Mad World" by Gary Jules, in Donnie Darko.
The dreadful "old time rock n roll" made more popular by the very straight Tom Cruise in his underwear.
"Don't You Forget About Me" from "The Breakfast Club."
"Uncle F'er" and "Blame Canada" from the South Park movie.
That dreadful paper planes song from Pineapple Express. (Was it even in the movie? I never saw it, but it was in the trailer.)
Number one of all time - Rock Around The Clock.
That only got air time for a short while when it was released. It might have even been the B side of a record (don't recall) and it wasn't all that popular, pretty much being forgotten after a few months. But the movie "Blackboard Jungle" brought it back about a year later and it's now thought of as one of the defining songs in Rock & Roll history.
Don't You (forget about me), Simple Minds, Breakfast Club
Danger Zone, Kenny Loggins, Top Gun
Crazy for You, Madonna, Vision Quest
Every song from "The Harder They Come", "Saturday Night Fever", "Grease"
Bonus:
TV commercial: New Soul, Yael Naim, Apple
TV Show: Had a Bad day, James Blunt, American Idol
A couple that come to mind ....
"Stay (I Missed You)" - Lisa Loeb
From Reality Bites. Ethan Hawke gave a tape of the song to Ben Stiller, who decided to include it in the movie. Resulted in her being the only artist to have the #1 hit on the U.S. singles chart before being signed to a record label
"I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" - The Proclaimers
From Benny and Joon. Released in 1988, but virtually unheard of in the US. Made the US charts in 1993 as a result of being in the movie.
