He is listed as unattached in 800m for this weekend's action. Other UVA runners are listed as running for UVA. Very curious.
Webb and Andrews running for Nike Charlottesville.

Wouldn't he be better off actually making the team before going pro?
If he signs with a sponsor it would be best to sign during USATF and wear their uniform at the meet. Best for the sponsor that is.
Otherwise he should wear the UVA uniform.
Being listed as unattached really means nothing in itself but it is curious.

I can't imagine he would be worth all that much of a contract. Maybe I'm wrong but doesn't seem like a glammer event and while he is good there is no real guarentee he will be great at the next level. At least qualifying for worlds would give the sponsor some international exposure.
it would be a good move to turn pro and forego next year's collegiate track seasons to focus on the Olympic trials and olympics. I might be in the minority on this board but I think he has a good chance for international success as a 1500 meter runner.

Going pro isn't always about the money. There are other benefits to running professionally. He has already won NCAA as a soph and run 1:44.71, I can't imagine there is much more for him to accomplish at UVA.
The race that actually qualifies him for Worlds gives the sponsor very good exposure.
He would be wearing a team USA uniform at Worlds.
USATF is where the sponsor's athletes are really on display wearing their stuff and showing their product name.
Maybe he is getting ready to transfer to Oregon? C'ville isn't big enough for Webb and himself.
From a sponsor's perspective, Andrews has name recognition already in the US and that is worth something.
From Robby's perspective, cash would be nice but the college environment may be best for training and he can build up more of a resume.
But next year is an Olympic year.
Since he has a good shot at making the team I suspect he will not be running the NCAA outdoor season next year where he would run Penn and then get a time and then go through regionals before the Trials.
So the timing may look good now.
I assume he won't go pro yet but would not be surprised if he does.
As stated on an earlier thread - it has nothing to do with anything about wanting to turn pro. There is an NCAA rule that technically, collegiates competing at events where they may be in direct competition with prospective athletes, cannot be officially representing their school without being ruled in violation and ineligible. That's it - no more, no less. Now, there IS an exception for World Championships and Pan-American game qualification - which this meet is - so, he could wear the uniform if he wanted.

I think everybody paying attention realizes that. I wasn't claiming to know what his decision will be. Other athletes at UVA are entered as UVA participants. Andrews is entered as unattached. This indicates he has a choice to make, and as a fan, I thought that was interesting and exciting.

How about getting the UVA school record?
How about getting an education?
I assume Paul Ereng has the UVA school record since he won the Olympics and the indoor World Championships in a world record time (1:44.84) while at UVA.
Ereng ran 1:43.16 in 1989 but that was outside the collegiate season so Andrews has the in season UVA record.

Sure. That would be something for him to consider, although he strikes me as the type of athlete less concerned about school records and more concerned with competing at the highest level. I certainly believe he has bigger fish to fry and think he will run faster than 1:43 when his career is all said and done.

It goes without saying that he can continue to get an education while running professionally. Especially if he decides to stay in Charlottesville and coach Vigilante. He is in a great position should he decide to go pro.
If he decides to stay In coach Vigilante? I knew they were close, but come on...

That is dumb. The school record is held by Paul. Indoor and out.

haha
This may have been discussed before, but what is that white singlet Robby wears under his UVA one when he races? Is it his high school top? Bit like Jordan and his NC shorts he always wore.
