Can we hold off on Great White Sprinter posts until he runs a sub 9.90?
Sure, when he first broke 10.00 it was news. But he is doing that regularly now and a 9.95 ain't gonna garner no World Champ or Oly medals these days.
He may very well get a sub 9.90. How about a moratorium until then?
Coming from the guy who can't break 15 for 100m! Way to go "The New Uncleb"
I think that's completely racist that you don't want to hear about a man's results because he's white.
Uncleb, last time I checked this was a running website where, you know, we discuss race results. I'm all for posting results. Thanks, OP. Impressive time by Lemaitre.
That's good.
The kid keeps improving, that's a good sign. I very well hope he breaks one day the 9.90 or even better.
He is a great symbol that you don't have to have one skin color in particular to be able to run 100 meters.
If anything, hes ridiculously consistent.
May 26- 10.00 +0.6 (behind bolt 9.91)
June 7- 9.96 +0.9 (behind blake 9.95)
June 18- 9.95 +1.0
he faces bolt again on july 8th.. maybe we get a 9.8x from him then?
Blacks will riot if whites take over sprinting.
I see them getting nervous and agitated in the stands when white guy/girls are doing well in the 400 meter. White start doing well in the 100M and oh man.
Where's the Geezer?
all races are equally able to run 100m. The ? is how fast!!
Thanks for the update. Good to hear. Hope he can stay injury free, and get a little faster.
How is his form this year compared to last year in your opinion?
Excellent run, he's improved his start and looked very strong finishing
Still improving as well
He also looks to be the type of runner who will go well through the rounds
The geezer is here, it sucks when work overrides more important things, like track.
My first inclination, before having seen the race (which is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYZgJUcTmU0
) was kind of the same as uncle b's: that this was essentially the exact same race he has run all year, and that while another sub-10 clocking, there was nothing particularly interesting about it other than that he won the race.
I remember saying, on another letsrun thread, that "Lemaitre really has some work to do, but he seems to be progressing really smoothly...maybe a little too smoothly to emerge as an actual threat this year." This performance reinforces that belief, judging by the time alone.
But then I watched the race, and it LOOKED better than his previous races. His start was more solid, his acceleration was smooth, his arm action is more economical, everything looked GREAT. All he needs to do is work on his power--right there, that was a low 9.8x race mechanic, needing only a little more power in the acceleration and transition. Maybe, since he is tall, he can work on that foot-dragging Powell-type start and acceleration.
He ran a very well-controlled race. Nowhere could I see where his form fell to pieces. He is a very disciplined runner, and that is why I agree with ukathleticscoach that he will progress well through the rounds at world's and olympics.
So this race was encouraging based on his form, but discouraging based on his time. Talk about consistency! Now if it was consistency at 9.85 rather than 9.95, he would REALLY be a threat. As it is, there must be 10 guys less consistent than him who could bust off a sub-9.95 in any given meet.
Even though he's young still, we have to start talking of him as essentially a mature sprinter. He's been running with the big boys for a while now, and there's no time like the present to "take it to the next level", although I f'ing absolutely hate that saying.
In this year of rampant sub-10 clockings, his 9.95 (+1.0) is just another average good result.
At least he looked good, and didn't get injured--but it almost seems like he is cloistered, like he's TOO controlled, like he needs to let go of something to be able to really kick some ass.
Is he mentally weak? He's young, that I know. But he will need to be dissatisfied with his performances in order to get any better.
Those of you who know anything about the French know that they are, if nothing else, SYSTEMATIC. They practically invented modern rules and regulations. Look at their civil code. I even took a picture of a sign at DeGaulle airport that read "Unattended luggage will be systematically destroyed." SYSTEMATICALLY! I'm sure his coach(es) have him on a tight leash, and have drilled into him that there is a "right" way to do everything, as there is in haute cuisine, and in the normative standards of French behavior. They're not as bad as the Japanese, but they can be pretty mechanistic.
And that's exactly how his running looks to me--sub-10, but VERY mechanistic. It's like he's made of reciprocating pistons pumping down the track. There doesn't seem to be any real flow to his running.
It will be interesting to see how far that can take him, or if he needs to humanize the race to be a real contender.
Oh, and so much for Chambers and Obikwelu. I was hoping for more out of BOTH of them this summer.
I guess you can be assured that Chambers is running cleanly, and a 10.07 clocking clean is no small feat. Nice job by him, although given his performances earlier this year, it would have been reasonable for him to have gone 10-flat or sub-10 with the +1.0 wind.
The reason why whites stink at sprinting is because so few whites actually perform in sports, and the ones who do either swim, run distance, or play baseball or football as the quarterback or kicker.
Its like High School and College coaches are racist idiots and direct promising white athletes into lower tier positions and sports.
White kids would perform just as well as blacks if they stopped playing video games, and went and played basketball and football like little black kids do.
I never see young white kids on a track, but when I do see young kids, they are always black. Why is that?
Whites are every bit as talented as blacks, they just don't end up in the sport because of racial inequality and also income levels. Poor kids play sports, rich kids play video games.

Do you really believe that?
Why aren't Belarussian or Armenian guys running 9.70 then, those are poor countries populated by white people?

Can you white hating assholes from Hillel House etc. put a moratorium on all posts that go into spine cracking contortions in order to find some why to attack white athletes and/or whites in general? Oh wait, it's part of your innate hate toward "the other" shielded by innate self-deception. Never mind.
thanks for posting the youtube link, geezer.
I am not a sprinter and so I appreciate your regular input on the sprint performances.
For me as an outsider it looks like Lemaitres Mantra no 1 is to stay smooth. Smooth and relaxed. He looked very relaxed in this race and I think this is what you described as " he needs to humanize the 100m". You may be right, but for me it looks more like a smooth runner minus the extra power of a top end sprinter like Bolt.
Regardless, let's just be positive and happy for him. Last year I was wishing his sub 10 clocking wouldn't be the last one we see in a while (because he may get injured, or because he just gets too focused on the sub 10 and his head gets in his way).
So being constant around 9.5 is just the next natural step. Let's not get overboard here and put him at 9.8 in our fantasy - that will be for next seasons to follow.
Ultimately I noticed how underdeveloped his upper body is in comparison with the other ( esp. black) sprinters. I just guess that once he adds more beneficial muscle mass to be more powerful he will drop times, given that he maintains smoothness.
Coming from a swimming background this is what we've been taught: first develop style, technique and smoothness to completion, then add on the power. Looks like he is following this principle.

Here are the top ten times run so far this year
9.79 *Tyson Gay (US) Clermont 06/04
9.80 Steve Mullings (Jamaica) Eugene DL 06/04
9.85 *Mike Rodgers (US) Eugene DL 06/04
9.89 Ngoni Makusha (Zimbabwe) NCAA 06/10
9.91 Usain Bolt (Jamaica) Rome DL 05/26
9.92 Nesta Carter (Jamaica) Eugene DL 06/04
9.93 Keston Bledman (Trinidad) Clermont 05/04
Asafa Powell (Jamaica) Rome DL 05/26
9.94 Michael Frater (Jamaica) Eugene DL 06/04
*Doc Patton (US) Eugene DL 06/03
Funny, but I don't recall any posts about the impressive 9.85 run by out countryman, Mike Rodgers. Doc Pattons' 9.94. Or Makusha's 9.89 or Bledman's 9.93.
Nor do I see LeMaitre's name up there
Now if 9.95 is impressive but not 9.85 is not, what is the difference?

Rodgers 9.85 and Patton 9.94 in Eugene were in a suspect race, and although Bledman is really coming on, his running has to me seemed uninspired so far, although I'm sure others find him fascinating. I'm actually looking forward to him being in the mix now.
Come on, b--I don't think anybody feels you, man.
