The Pentagon is. Especially with the 100,000 generals each commanding a few hundred people apiece. Especially with the quadruple duplications of functions. Four types of aircrafts for each branch. Four special forces infantry units for every branch. Four service academies. On and on.
true, now that you mention it. the NCAA even seems miniscule to say the dept of education or some of the disease care depts.
4 service academies? Westpoint - Army, Air Force Academy - Air Force, Naval Academy - Navy and Marine Corps.
The world's largest bureaucracy is probably some branch of the Chinese, Indian, or Russian government. Maybe the CPC (Communist Party of China), the world's largest political party with 78 million members.
There is also a Coast Guard Academy, and there is a Marine Corps University (although I don't know if it counts as a service academy http://www.mcu.usmc.mil/default.aspx)
There are 5 Service Academies:
Department of Defense
- United States Military Academy (West Point, NY)
- United States Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, CO)
- United States Naval Academy (Annapolis, MD)
Department of Homeland Security
- United States Coast Guard Academy (New London, CT)
Department of Transportation
- United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point, NY)
That is all. Services may have other institutions that grant degrees or course credit, but they are not service academies.
