This brings up an interesting conundrum. I don’t know if anyone else does this but I have certain thresholds that I must meet before I’ll race. For my first master’s race at age 47 it was a Saturday 5K time trial and I was not going to race until I easily slipped under 7 min pace. From 48 to 53 the threshold was my, at the time, go-to workout of 3 individual 1600’s with a lap jog between. I HAD to get one, preferably 2 of them under 6 minutes or I would not race. After hitting the infamous 50’s brick wall at 53 and ½ my threshold at age 55 and 56 was back to the sub 7 pace 5K time trial. Now that I’m not on the road at all and nearing 60 I actually have no freaking idea what my threshold should be! So I won’t race myself into shape, and, unfortunately, KP, I won’t be in shape for Shawsville.
