Hi all,
All of the sub 3:00 at 60 talk has really gotten my Adrenalin pumping :-)
An update on my quest since a couple of weeks ago... I was under the weather for a week and so my mileage dropped to 57 per week for a couple of weeks (two days off each week) but I was able to get in a long run and a marathon-paced run each week. I'm done with the buildup now and have a three week taper until Houston.
My longest run was two weeks ago (28) and this Monday I did a marathon (using the Garmin so it is almost certainly short) in 2:36 with no ill effects. My last marathon-paced run was last evening at the track with 3 x 6 miles with one minute jog between (38:51, 39:30, 40:00). I did a pretty lousy job of pacing on that one and am a sore and tired pup this morning. But I practiced my aid station technique and that went well. No tummy troubles or Gatorade up the nose.
All this seems to point to a good time in Houston, barring any stupid moves in the next three weeks.
Someone posted a couple of pages back the times needed in different races to predict a sub 3 finish. The times are right on what I did earlier in the year before a hamstring setback, and I think I am back up there at this point. We shall see.
Thanks for listening. I am excited to see what I can do but I expect that no one around home wants to listen to this nonsense.
Bob
PS. One interesting thing... I was feeling really run down and was sleeping a LOT, and runs were just not going well. A friend suggested trying iron and I did. Three days later, I was back in the swing of things. My yearly physical showed my iron stores and red blood cell count as right in the middle of the normal range, but perhaps we need more for this endurance stuff? I'm not up on all this. Any doctors out there?
