Today marked the one-year anniversary of my entry into this conversation. At the time, I was training three days a week, with a marathon planned four weeks hence. Today finds me with two training days this week, and with a marathon planned three weeks hence.
Last year I set a conservative goal of sub-3:30, and ran 3:25. This year I have a very challenging goal of 3:05, and not feeling confident going into the three-week taper. Injuries and time constraints kept me off the roads this past week. And with low mileage comes increasing weight -- in short order my hard-won six-pack has faded into blubber. I definitely need to muster better self-discipline for the next 20 days.
The hay may, indeed, be in the barn at this point. But with the barn roof leaking, I fear the hay will soon turn to rot!
