...........thanks so much, Allen. I'm afraid I haven't run a recent sub-3 marathon, though that remains a goal. Haven't finished a marathon since Boston 2014 -- I was DNF Philadelphia 2015 [or technically I "finished" the half option -- hamstring. DNS Richmond 2016/DNF Northern Central Trail 2016 hip adductor.....
but hope springs eternal so this past Weds. I started training for Hartford marathon 10/14/17. Like you, I'm going with 9-day cycles [12 of them]. I've done 9 and 7 several times each with good and bad results on either, but I kind of like the 9-day cycle as lending itself to a simple routine of working hard every 3rd day.
Key workouts so far were
Weds. 1:25 incl. 2 X 10:00 (2:00 recovery) at half-marathon pace
Sat. 2:10 with last 15:00 at marathon pace.
Long run was mostly along the Charles River outside Boston -- we've been here in Watertown past few days for my niece's wedding. I lived here in the early 1980s, and it's been nice to see some of my old stomping grounds. I seem to freeze everything in my mind and get surprised by the most mundane changes ("I remember that dunkin' donuts, but wait, there was no Home Depot on that corner before. What's going on?").
Happy Independence Day,
Dave

Impressive on a hilly course. And a deep field in the M55 group. And I am still thinking of your recent sub-3 marathon. You were so matter-of-fact in listing it as a goal back in January, then quietly accomplishing it. Seems like it went largely unheralded, but count me among those in awe!
