That's fantastic! Congratulations! Nice progression of races this season, too.

My rant for the day... I'm sick to death of all the posts hating on Nike & Kipchoge and the whole 2 hour challenge. I stayed up until 2am watching the entire thing and loved every minute of it! You know, of all the 559 some races I've run throughout my running life, there are maybe two that I would consider the perfect day. All others have had something wrong: Too hot, cold, windy, hilly, rainy, didn't eat, sleep or rest properly, went out too fast/too slow and on and on...If you bring anything up as to why you didn't run your best it sounds like an excuse. Which it is! So when a guy finally has chance to run under optimal, perfect conditions it's called an unfair advantage, cheating, or a sideshow. Any one of us would jump at the chance to finally run in perfect conditions! What we saw was how difficult it really is and what an amazing feat running 2:00:25 is. I've concluded it will never happen in a road marathon. We saw that no one can go out and 4:35's for 2 hours. And I'm humbled that I could barely run much more than 1/4 mile at that pace....
My week went well. I hit my goal 16:59 in Fridays race but it turns out the course was a bit short...maybe .05. So it was closer to 17:16-17 or so. I'm good with the run...I've run the same exact course in 17:05 & 17:04 in 2014 & 15. And I ended up with 16:45's both of those years. So there's some hope for a decent 5k later this season.

Have a good week,

Golden Oldie,
Perhaps you mean well and your comments are meant to encourage, and in a way they do. My plan is to be more than active, and I don't use beating "couch potatoes" as my benchmark. I have my own standards that are higher than you can probably imagine.

nicely done! after a hiatus of a decade from road marathons, no less. very impressive. enjoy your recovery,
Dave
I'm with you Dave, I was completely stunned by Kipchoge's performance. I don't know whether to try harder because he has shown us what is possible or to just give up.

Indeed my post was intended as encouragement following your description of your pace as being pedestrian. It's easy to get discouraged reading some of the results of others here, but you shouldn't allow yourself to get down. All are welcome here and we don't judge your results as much as your effort and enthusiasm for the sport. As long as your standards are reasonable for you, you should stick with them and not measure yourself against those of us who might be faster. Be your own person, Igy. You are an experiment of one. Good luck.
Golden Oldie,
The plan is to be a fast experiment of one by season end. I am sure you will check in.

CM congrats. I remember back when you and Time raced CIM
For 2020 maybe this one:
Charlie,
Check out the records under "About Us." Specifically 20-24 age group.

Fast young buck very nice. Your tme would have won it by 15 minutes this year;)
Charlie,
Thanks, but I can't run 400m at that pace.Perhaps the course has changed. At the time I was living at Tahoe and running a lot miles. I do recall at 20 miles there was a slight hill, uneven pavement, that was where I lost the winner that year Wayne Bagley.

70 74 2020 time to beat is 3:53 just a thought!
Charlie,
That is actually interesting. I will see how this year goes. By the way, with you inspiration I have been losing about 1.5 lbs per week. As I said it does leave me flat and tired.

As a general rule, I try to ignore the "hate" posts on this board, whether they are directed at elite runners or at hobby joggers. Those people are just looking for anything they can bash for any reason. I feel sorry if that's all they can do in their life.
My week.
M: off.
T-SA: 6 miles.
SU: 11.1 miles.
I am slowly recovering from my last half. I am doing better than the last time with almost no physical issues. It's just very busy time of the year, and I don't want to stress myself too much.

Charlie that was epic. We also had Ven, and I had some friends from Colorado running too, and we ran as our own pace group. And Avenue of the Giants was an almost this time, but I'm traveling next month and had to watch the budget. I really want to do that race someday--but don't know how many more of these marathons I want to do.
I'm with you Dave. Interesting setup by Nike, awesome run by Kipchoge. There's a lot of hate, but we have to expect it. Even in the real world there's enough of it, then on the internet it is magnified 1000x. But on the day, Kipchoge and Tadese and Desisa gave everything they had. Nobody can do better than that. That transcends all the hatred. They are way up above, and the haters are way down below, doing the proverbial wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I basically agree. Who cares if it was run under different rules from a regular race? It was great theater, a great athletic performance, and it brought a lot of positive attention to our sport from people who would normally never notice. My only criticism is the absence of regulation drug testing. I, for one, don't really care if they "cheated" by drafting behind the pace car or with the rotating pacers or the moped delivery of drinks. But I guess I do care if the athletes were doped to the gills. Oh well...still great theater and a great performance.
After 25 hears at Nike (17 in running product creation) I can say without any doubt the Breaking2 Shoe is something special. I can say it with a different, less biased, angle too... as I approach 100k miles, 20 marathons (2:28 PR), haven't counted yet but guessing 500+ track & road races between 800m & 10,000m, and a tester of 3% since Dec 2016, this product is an unprecedented EFFICIENCY story. Talkin' from tempo runs to LSD to recovery to everything but workouts you prefer/need spikes for. I have the research papers in hand to prove the lab, and perception, proof. One day, if y'all are interested I will share it with you. Regardless, I hope you'll look beyond our cynical cultural world we live in and simple be like any good runner - try it - see for yourself if there is any benefit from it - for you and your running. I know this might sound like a sales pitch. I'm really just trying to get you to look beyond the hate culture we seem to be stuck with these days.

You and Igy should both go and set a couple age-group course records. And congrats to Igy ... 40-plus years, and the record still stands. Amazing! That race almost made it on my schedule a couple times ... back in the 80s, and in 2001 when my wife and I opted for Big Sur instead. Maybe 2020 for me, too. I'll be 60 ...
Thanks Allen1959. I didn't realize I had the record until a friend of mine told me several years ago. I am actually feeling like I might be able to run that distance again. Another 3 1/2 years of running and getting inspiration from this thread just might do it.
