Hello all. After a couple discouraging workouts the previous week, this past week went very, very well.
I felt quite strong during Monday's 20-miler, actually running faster than my marathon pace last October. Wednesday's Lactate Threshold workout was very encouraging, as well.
The LT workout was followed by my traditional 3-day 5K taper, and today I surpassed my 2017 goal for 5K. The race was on a certified course, temperature about 40 degrees, a bit windy. It was a fairly small race (less than 300 runners), but competitive in the masters divisions: M40 winning time was 16:11, and M50 was 17:25.
I ran 18:57 (6:06/mi); my goal for this year was to go under 19:20, so I am very happy! Today's 5K was more than a minute faster than my previous over-50 PR set on February 5th (19:57). It's not very often that one sees a minute improvement in just 8 weeks!
Next race is the Half Marathon on April 30. Today's race was a great confidence boost (encouraging, also, to run even splits). Here was my week:
