Week 183
*************************
Greeting, 50+ers! Hopefully, this will be the last week of "slacking" for me. The knee is finally coming around. The swelling is pretty much gone, and I've able to take my stick aggressively to the muscles just above the knee and that has really helped improve the mobility. I did a bit of jog/walk this past week and will try running a solid 5 today. Now the question is what caused this all to happen in the first place. Choices are:
a) arthritis in my big toes getting worse has changed my gait,
b) laying off the core work due to the sports hernia has weakened my stability, or
c) running 10 miles in cushy, zero-drop shoes (back in October) caused me to alter my running.
I think it might be a combination of the three; b) and c) I can do something about, a) is just something I keep learning to live with (the docs say that at some point the bones will fuse, and that'll be the end of that.)
Regardless, very much looking forward to getting back on the roads.
Thrilled for Olin Hacker (and his and my HS coach) on his strong 2nd place showing at NXN. That Glendoveer course looked like a nice venue....much better than the Portland Meadows, IMO. Footlocker Nationals next weekend in San Diego might be one of the deepest HS fields there has ever been. Too bad that NXN and FL West Regional conflict, doesn't seem right that one of the best runners in the country won't be there because he chose to run with his team. Associated thread:

At any rate, good luck to Olin and all the other kids competing.
Looks like an impressive turnout for Club Cross this coming weekend.

Well-wishes to all heading out east!
Hope things are going well in your neck of the woods.
All the Best!
