As I said before, I think your training was stellar. I do believe it was a mistake to choose NYC for your PR attempt. To a large extent it IS about the training, thus it's tempting to think that any marathon will do. But there are some quite obviously non-PR-worthy choices:

Although not in that deranged category, NYC has big city distractions (which may or may not play a role), and predictably bad start logistics (which absolutely must have an impact). With a multi-year plan the other thing I would have done is run my chosen race both years.
