Greetings to all the 50+ gang.
This week I drove the winding mountain roads from the city of Oaxaca to the beach at San Agustinillo, Oaxaca. It takes 7 hours to go 150 miles, pretty rugged mountain range to get over.
I've been doing consistent 30 mile weeks, but this week I enjoyed doing intervals on the beach.
Mon, 5 @ 650 meters, 2 @ 80 stride
Tue, 2 @ 650 meters, 3 @ 80 stride
Wed, 6 @ 650 meters, 3 @ 80 stride
Thurs, 30 minutes easy run, 2 @ 80 stride
Fri, 4 @ 650 meters
Sat, ! @ 650 meters (fast)
About 2.5 - 3 minutes rest between each fast bit. San Agustinillo beach is a nice flat stretch of hard packed sand to run on.
My goal was to work hard but not over-do it. My legs got pretty sore from this. I could have done a few more reps but didn't want to risk injury.
Man, I feel guilty posting this after reading all the posts about running in heavy winter conditions!
Anyone who gets the wild hair should meet me next January in San Agustinillo for some speed work on the beach, incredible seafood (cheap!) and even a decent margarita or two. I did keep it to one drink per day max, had to get those workouts in.
