Nutritional supplement scam juice plus

I would suggest you look at the research, read the abstracts and look at the medical institutes and universities who have done research on Juice Plus. Having had results of this peer reviewed research published in 18 medical journals including the Journal of American College of Cardiology, is much more valuable and credible than your minor in chemistry. We are so inundated with scams and questionable information that it is hard for us to believe that something so simple such as fruits and vegetables in a capsule could actually work. Juice Plus does not claim to prevent any specific disease, but will improve your nutrition thus improving your immune system, protecting and even repairing damaged DNA, lowering markers of systemic inflammation, supporting a healthy cardiovascular system, raising your antioxidant levels. All of these have been proven through independent research.

Wow it sure was a fortunate coincidence that there happened to be a representative from this scam company just browsing a running messageboard the same day some completely different person posted about the scam company! What a crazy world we live in!

You are obviously a juice plus rep. You are feeding me the same corporate propaganda, line for line, that she feeds me.

How many of those research papers are funded by Juice Plus. I have found evidence that it is at least 12. On my minor in chemistry, that is only because I am looking into the feasibility of reducing the fruit to match their claim. I am seeking advice from a PhD, my basic education says that their claim sounds implausible.

None of the research has compared Juice Plus to a standard supplement. Juice plus costs $470 more per year than a standard supplement. I ballistic armor for a career. I do not test a new armor system to no armor. I test it against a current armor solution. Why is Juice Plus not applying a similar approach.

Yes they have some success against a placebo. But this does not justify the astronomical cost. They need to prove the value vs a standard supplement.

Look at the Juice Plus label, looks like a reduced version of flintstones.

Oh and in the manufacturing process they add in the vitamins/minerals so it is no different than a standard cheap supplement.

If Juice Plus is so awesome, why do they make you pay them to sell it? Why isn't it sold in stores? Seems like it should be flying off the shelves if it's half as successful as they claim. Instead they use a borderline-scam method of selling it.

I know several people wrapped up in Monavie. It's hard to know if it's a scam or not, but they def take advantage of stupid people. Something like 97% of the employees never make a dime.

Check out the book "Bad Science" by Ben Goldacre or really any book on skepticism.

There are chapters in Goldacre's book about Nutritionists and bullshit claims like this. They'll point to research articles and claim something that the article doesn't. They take one sentence and forge an entirely different conclusion from it. We can look at articles that establish that individuals with higher levels of a certain antioxidant correlates to lower cardiovascular disease risk. One could logically conclude that supplementing this antioxidant would lower cardiovascular disease risk. BUT, what actually happened was that it raised the risk even higher, but that would conveniently be ignored by the supplement industry, of course.

Independent studies like the one this rep is referring to I have no doubt that they are funded by Juice Plus, have faulty methodology, and/or are statistically insigificant (low sample size).

Boosting the immune system is pseudoscience. No such thing if you're a healthy person. There was a crackdown on "Airborn" a few years back for claiming this.

The FDA doesn't regulate supplements, which means that something labeled as a supplement can basically claim anything short of curing aids and cancer.

I honestly don't know anything about Juice Plus and certainly have no affiliation with the company, but have performed research trials on other similar supplements and figured I'd give this thread a look.

Just looking through what has been said here, in theory, this can work. There are a number of products that have antioxidants in them and can do things like reduce oxidative stress and alter biomarkers affiliated with immunity and DNA damage.

I checked out the Juice Plus website and clicked on the research links, and the research is published in good journals from good universities. I don't have time to read through the articles, but the fact that there are that many articles which have gone through the peer review process strongly suggests there is something to it.

A few things to consider... Without thoroughly reading through all the articles (don't have time to do that), was JP just compared to placebo, or was it compared to actual fruit / vegetable consumption or general antioxidants? In other words, is JP actually better than other products out there, or is it just another antioxidant pill? My guess is it would be superior in antioxidant capacity to a few glasses of juice, simply because it is so concentrated. However, I am sure most of the fiber is removed to make JP, so it isn't the exact equivalent of eating all that fruit - it really depends what you are after.

The other thing to consider is the controversy about antioxidants and exercise. Are antioxidants beneficial for athletes? Or do they potentially prevent adaptations to endurance training? There is evidence for both - the issue is a complex one. So, as effective as JP may be at what science has demonstrated, does it ultimately improve athletic performance (if that is what your after) and if so, in what populations? In quickly browsing through the website, I did not see any research specific to athletes.

From what I can see, it appears to be a quality product. I can't speak to the actual value or how it compares to other similar products. 100% unbiased opinion.

Just reread your post... You are correct in your concern about only being compared to a placebo (as I just stated in my previous post). That is one major issue in medicine today, with nutritional supplements and pharma - just because a product works does not necessarily mean it works better than the existing product. It is a topic known as comparative efficacy. I like your analogy about ballistic armor - will need to use that one in the future.

Corporate funding is a concern, but not necessarily a red flag. It is part of research, and also a topic often discussed in JAMA and other medical journals. What we don't know about is unsuccessful trials. Yes, there are 18 or whatever publications, but is it possible that they are selectively only reporting the good results and none of the indifferent ones? We don't know and won't know.

Again, the evidence out there indicates it improves biomarkers affiliated with better health in the short-term, but how much that affect long-term health, who knows...

I took Juice+ for about ten years, while training hard and eating as well as I (lots of fruit/veggies included). I let the "subscription" lapse about five years ago, and honestly have noticed no difference overall in my response to training, general health, etc.. It may offer some sort of insurance against long-term disease and debility, but I am at present unconvinced.

My wife got suckered into trying to sell Juice Plus+ by my Chiropractor who I had to assist my health insurance company bring fraud charges against for billing them on days we did not have treatments done, and on days we had treatments, he billed for other services that we never received. The Juice Plus+ representative who actually handled setting up my wife's account to be a representative makes tons of money and even though we sold quite a bit of the product, we took a loss in the venture. My health did not increase nor decrease while taking the product. They are set up similar to a pyramid scheme and should not only the product be studied further, the management should also be investigated for fraud. My advice is to grow your own fruits and vegetables so you know what you are eating. It is more work, but that helps in your training but there is a certain satisfaction in eating something you yourself grew.

I had been checking all the claims and reviews of Juice Plus because I buy JP for my kid and I have notice a significant difference in his life. First of all Juice Plus has a good scientific backing from well known universities and hospitals.Secondly JP does not claim that 17 different types of fruits and vegetables are (totally) condensed in to 2 small capsules. What they say is that there are 17 different types of fruits and vegetables are in the capsules. Also Juice Plus specifically states that JP capsules are the next best thing to fruits and vegetables. If you are in the Pharma business you will know whether anybody could sell products like JP in their stores. Also if you go through a chain store the cost of JP would sky rocket is price and nobody would be able to buy. Finally, no pharma products are scientifically tested and JP cannot be tested or compared with any isolated vitamins or pharma products. In the end all what I can say is that I have seen and experienced the goodness of JP so as far as I am concerned I will keep buying this product.
