Truly sorry to hear this. Way too young. Way too talented. Tragic, tragic loss. Wishing all the best to his family and friends. RIP.

x 2. I have never enjoyed watching a marathon more than that one. He was awesome.
Rest in Peace Sammy. Such an inspiration.
In my mind, his Olympic Marathon was the greatest ever run. I truly hope he does rest in peace.
Can't believe it. Damn shame. RIP Mr. Wanjiru
The entire community of Iten and Kenya mourns today at the loss of the great runner Sammy Wanjiru.
Indeed... a sad day for runners everywhere.
I've watched the Olympic Marathon broadcast a few times the night before a race to get fired up. He was an amazingly talented runner and probably could have had the WR had he run on a course like Berlin.
RIP Sammy.
Wanjiru was to Kenya what Prefontaine was to the US. All guts and passion, all of the time.
Wow, I am shocked to hear this. He was SO young. We were lucky to be able to witness such a great talent. My heart goes out to his family, friends, country.
Truly saddening..
For what is it to die, but to stand in the sun and melt into the wind? And when the Earth has claimed our limbs, then we shall truly dance.
KAHLIL GIBRAN
I really wish this wasn't for real. Sammy was one of the most talented runners the world has ever seen. He had a great recognizable attitude and image that would've gone a long way towards popularizing our sport and building up a fanbase. This is truly a sad day.
10/10/10 glad i was there to see him finish live! definitely inspired a lot of people. rest in peace my man!
What a tragedy. He was certainly a remarkable talent, but 24-years-old is far too young regardless of your chosen vocation.
RIP, Sammy. Your brief career still left an indelible mark upon the distance running community.
Godspeed, Mr. Wanjiru.
Confirmation? I see nothing in the sports web sites anywhere.

I couldn't agree more. He just kept pushing and pushing, everyone thought he would crack. Too hot, too humid, too fast, too young, too inexperienced... nonsense. One of the greatest ever over any distance in his short time with us.
Wow, how sad. Top of the running world and then just gone. Shocking and sad.

We're talking about running. This IS the best source.
