At the Warwick (NY) Fast Times Realys HS meet there will once again be an elite/open mile • Men’s and Women’s Open Mile fields, paced for sub-4:00/4:35. • To be run immediately after the seeded sections of the 4x800. • Prize money breakdown for men and women: o 1st: $500, 2nd: $200, 3rd: $100 o $500 bonus for first under 4:00/4:35 The goal of the elite mile is to inspire the 1300 high school runners by showing them that some of the most coveted barriers in their sport can be broken right in front of their eyes. Most high school runners have no idea what they can become if they stick with the sport, and they are rarely exposed to their potential idols, especially not in person. The elite “Reality” miles can put such heroes on display to inspire the whole community. Just for reference, that 4:00.26 won it last year, with second place in 4:00.61. Currently, three of the entrants are running in the Olympic Trials, though none are currently qualified in the 1500. It's a legit event. |
