Obviously the original poster isn't quite up to speed on formatting time. He/she used "time" criteria for formatting time when he should have used "custom" criteria ... h:mm:ss

To answer your second question I used conditional formatting on duplicate entries (date and day) to change the font color to match the background colr. It gives the appearance of tkaing out the duplicates.
Yes, Excel comes with the tools to do this, and much more. It's a huge application.
The basic concept is this (each version of Excel will have slightly different methods)
Conditional formatting
> use formula to determine formatting
> type in =b2=b1 or a2=a1 (depending on the column)
> click on format
> chose font color that matches the background color.
> a formatting rule has been created
THEN
> copy the cells in which you've created the new conditional formatting rules
> PASTE SPECIAL formatting only
to all of the other cells in the spreadsheet you want to have the same conditional formatting.
