3rd leg of the girls 4 x 8 trials.

2nd fastest h.s. girls split ever, fastest ever by an American h.s. girl.

Crowd was going insane.
She went from last to first!
She must have been pretty far behind to have to run that fast in the trials.

I think Ajee's 2 flat split might be fastest ever, but there have been several girls who have run faster splits than 2:03.4.

Sorry, fastest American H.S. split at Penn ever.

And yes, she was far behind - she was in dead last. Her team ran 9:16, and qualified for the finals of the 4 x 8.
Wow, as a high school senior she could very conceivably make the U.S. olympic team in the 800. That's pretty dang amazing.
That girl has to be one of the most clutch relay runners of all time. Most people pick up tenths of a second on relay splits, she picks up two-three seconds.

Athletes who are racers tend to excel at relays, especially when they have people to chase. You don't think about splits, you run on instinct and just focus on catching the person in front of you. Sometimes you blow up, but sometime you run way faster than you could in a flat race. Kim Gallagher once said, I don't mind getting the baton in last place as long as I'm too far behind. She frequently got the baton in last place and ran incredible relay splits working her way to the front.
especially for runners like those two(Gallagher and Wilson) How many times in HS are they going to be challenged by other competitors to run 100% in an open race? Prob not very often. I like to say obvious things btw haha.
I hope she can still run a fast Mile later tonight and that didn't take too much out of her! I was hoping to see a fast time.
As a sophomore last year Ajee split 2:00.59 to anchor a sprint-medley relay.
Did she have fire in her eyes?

Not really. She just has mad talent. But man she can throw down when she gets the stick in the back. Who knows what she would have run today if the coach had had her anchor instead of run the 3rd leg. Her open races at World's last year were not as impressive as her sprint medley race at Outdoor Nats.
I think she was tired by the time Worlds came around. Ajee runs the 400 to mile and even short sprints on relays, so as you can imagine, she gets a lot of work.
we have some great young prospcts in the 800
ajee wilson
daesha rogers 2:11 and 4:54 turned 12 last week
raevyn rogers 53.3 for 400 and 2:06.90 for 800 at age 13.
robyn reynolds she won many age group titles at 100, 200, 400 and 800 and is a top high school long jumper, in high school her coach has not had her run an 800, but she says that will be her event in college, note she beat ajee wilson in an 800 at age group nationals.
i know most dont pan out, but with 4 standouts like this 1 or 2 will likely go on to big things.
She ran a faster split than Chanelle Price in the COA DMR. One has to wonder, is Price ever going to be significantly better than she was as a high schooler?
In fact, Wilson split faster than ANY collegiate woman in the COA DMR. Crazy. Just a junior.
Too bad we didn't get to see her in the mile too.
Her new coach wiil have her go 2 mins in the open race.

Must have had a tailwind. Nobody can run 2:03 low without one.
