That had to hurt!
That had to hurt!
How far into the race did you see her? Too bad. She seems like "good people".
Video replay here... I guess the balloon thing came later.
Watching her fight through the pain I fear that she is ruining her career. I hope I'm wrong on that.
Up date on her injury?
Without Hall and Smith going out hard we would have not seen the great race it turned out to be. Running boldly with courage and daring is all you can ask from a runner. Congrats to all of the folks at the front of the race.
Gross.
That Pink Floyd guy's hands swelled like two balloons. Sorry about that, Mr. Floyd.
she's totally devastated. poor thang :(
This is so sad. She was absolutely crushing at the half. I feel terrible for her. :(
kim smith is awesome.
Kim Smith is, indeed, awesome. That was devastating to watch. Hope she runs it again next year, because she looked unbeatable today.

The marathon is 26 miles long, the race really gets going after 16 miles, lot's of people have looked great for 16 miles only to fade like the setting sun. Looking unbeatable in mile 26 is much more important.
Smith mentioned that she felt the fittest she's ever been. In my experience, THAT is when you are at the razor's edge of injury or other disappointmemt. It's part of the mysterious algorithm of fitness and performance that makes running at your peak so challenging as well as so damned frustrating at times. Best of luck to her recovery.
Fair enough. Thanks for the interesting and unique factoid about the marathon being 26 miles long. If you do a little Googling, you'll find that Smith is quite comfortable leading wire-to-wire, and may even prefer running that way. I'll help you out a bit.

nope the marathon is officially 42,195 meters in length.
Archie is a f!@#ing douche bag.
Yes, the marathon is a bitch who wins nearly every time but obviously Kim Smith is one of the best distance runners in the world who was prepare for this race & ready to run fast. Would she have won? Irrelevant. Did she have everyone on their knees at the half? Yes.
By the way, who is Smith's coach?

Great, doesn't mean that leading at 16 miles of a marathon is gonna workout for her. BTW, I'm quite familiar with Kim and her racing tactics, what's her marathon best?
anyways, Thanks for the help.
Kim Smyth's was couragous. Mr. Hall, on the other hand was not.
He pushed when he should not have pushed. And fell back when he should not have fell back.

Oh yea, one other thing Deanie boy, I wouldn't call the marathon length statement a factoid unless you are being nitpicky over me leaving the .2 off. It is much closer to 26 miles than 16, that is a fact.

Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
