This meet was great. Totally on schedule. Over in 2 hours. Racing, throwing, jumping for place not marks. Great announcing about the score. It was fun to watch. There should be more of these competitions.

agreed, winning is more important and more fun to watch than time/distance
Though unfortunate (possibly fitting) to end in a tie. For a tie breaker next time throw in the big mans relay?
The meet was fantastic and it was great that the teams were going back and forth all day. Did anyone happen to get a split for Oregon's anchor on the 4x4? It looked like he was absolutely flying.
Just curious, how many fans where there in attendance? Same as Oregon's 5000 had it been held at Hayward?
There were 50 track and field meets in L.A. in the last four days at dozens of high schools on Thursday to multis at APU to Mt Sac the World's Largest Relays to the overflow meet at Cerritos JC. Only So Cal USATF has the certified officials to fit in a dual meet on Sunday. Thanks guys.

The couple of crowd shots I saw showed very light attendance. Lanana said it was tough to agree to having the meet in LA because the crowd turnout would suffer from competition from other meets and general apathy toward niche sports.
I'm curious if it met his expectations. I think the athletes outnumbered spectators.
While the stadium probably looked fairly empty you have to remember that drake holds over 11K people. I'm terrible at estimating these things but I think there were at least a thousand fans there. You're never going to get as many people to come to a meet at UCLA as you would if it was at Hayward Field.
Sports in Los Angeles is something you 'do'. While in the rest of the world, sports is something 'you watch on television' or 'observe by sitting in the stands'. Why people sit in the stands when they should be training or competing is beyond me. Did you see Joy Upshaw sitting on her butt on Saturday ? I don't have cable nor satellite. I never watch TV except for the news. I took my kids and now I take my grandkids to Lakers and Dodgers games when they were growing up. Then got them started in soccer, throws, running, ... L.A. folks won't sit and watch. It's not our culture. Weekends are for doing sports, not being a dead weight. That's why people move to Los Angeles from all over the world and that's why Los Angeles is the College sports, Pro sports, and especially the Track and Field Capitol of the World with the championships and medals to match that claim.
What is wrong with our sport? We were at Mt. SAC this weekend to witness some of the finest athletes in our nation set some unbelievable times. Yet...the stands were empty.... and when someone did set a record, the fans hardly noticed. Unbelievable.
it's simple:
fatbods, meth addicts, and homeless sit and watch track meets.
athletes train and compete.
OMG! Now go back to your prayer book and find a real life you LA idiot.

You FATBOD Grandmalmarry. I seen you in a MOO MOO and a hair net at Mt Hood CC. Get lap band surgery. You smell.
The truth hurts bro, doesn't it.
That's a heroic portrayal of LA. I think the reality is that it's a bitch to move around to attend events. I live in Anaheim. I wouldn't spend the time necessary to get to Westwood to see a dual meet. I might try to get to Walnut for Mt. SAC but I didn't this year.
There are millions of people here you just wouldn't trek too far from home for a track meet.
Not even 500 people can show up at a track meet at UCLA? Where are all you Bruin fans? Sitting home watching Laker highlights?

So Cal USATF represents a substantially large percentage of the entire USATF memberships. We have outdoor meets all year around. We have the Olympic medalists and IAAF Worlds medalists. We have the top two NCAA T&F schools in the USA, UCLA and USC (with all due respect to U Texas).
I do my long run on Sundays. What about you ? Do you just watch ESPN or do you have kick-around. God forbid you lounge around and fatten up on Sundays. Get out and exercise on Sundays.

45-point. Freshman (from Seattle) Michael Berry has only run a few meets and his legend has already begun.
