Got ouckicked. Was an unbelieveably slow first 2 laps( 2:20) and then picked up the pace. He was in cotention with 250 to go but then got destroyed in the kick. Winner was Samoulai from Alabama. Manzano 4th. 2nd was Kivuvai who took 2nd in Thursday nights 800 meter.

Is it rational for me to be sad that the Rotterdam Marathon is going to go out quicker for the first 800 tomorrow than this race?

100 meters to go, German got his shoe stepped on. A "flat tire". Crossed the line and slid the back of the heel back on. It did seem like he gave up... You can still run hard... Shoe comes off... It comes off, ya know. There was only 100 meters left in the race.

I'm trackside, so there it is.

Also, Dave Smith is cussing up a storm, and touching himself.

I'm surprised people actually think this was a bad race.

This was his first race in a few months and he's in contention and making moves with a lap to go.

I have questioned his competitiveness in the past, never his ability. His performance today should be encouraging as he definitely laid it on the line. With no races under your belt its hard to out-kick savvy veteran racers.

I think this bodes well for a 5k at Payton Jordan.

Given his past races, it would be nice to see him show more mental toughness as races rarely go exactly as planned...but I agree. This is a second outdoor race (did an 800 at Tulsa in March), and there is not really a lot to be gathered from it since an olympian (Leo) ran only 3 seconds faster.

Lets see how upcoming races go.

german needs to learn to tie his shoes. Its not hard. How would you like to train hard week in and week out, exhausting yourself, giving so much up only to be foiled by a shoe. He needs a different pair or something if the way he likes to tie them won't keep the ones he uses on. I'm sure coach smith could find him something that works that stays on his foot, or maybe teach him a new shoe tying style. It really worries me for future Ok state runners if the coach can't even get his runners to run races without their shoes coming off, thats like distance running 101. Maybe Smith should move down to coaching middle school.

Maybe these guys should have raced the high school freshman and sophomores at the Arcadia Invitational...beat them by 3 seconds! haha.

4:17...what is that, 5k pace?

It was an exciting race to watch. I doubt German or Leo are too concerned about not having top finishing speed in early April in what amounted to a 600 meter race.

German sounds very confident right now:

The shoe thing has definitely entered the realm of the absurd, but those of you who are looking to turn it into a character flaw are just dicks.

Oh, and please STFU, Mike.

Yes. 4.9 m/second is 4.9 meters by second in wind or just over 11 mph

They were recording in metres per second, jack@ss. Have you never been to a track meet? Do you know nothing about the sport? I will, however, cut you a little slack, since the announcer, did repeatedly--and mistakenly--say miles per hour instead of metres per second.

Yes, I would agree. And I would also say that I was a little harsh in my own replies, although it's pretty irritating to see the same person post two such egregiously erroneous "facts" in support of his criticism of the race. I agree--it was pretty much a disaster and an ugly piece of running for all concerned from beginning to end. I don't even know what the top finishers would take from it, other than some confidence about their kick.

OK, after watching that race I actually thought German looked pretty good. Just got boxed in and maybe made his move too early, but he looked strong.
