I am looking for some must do races. I live in Florida so southeast area is better, but the east coast if fine. Also races should be 5k- half marathon distance, no marathons. Which races are must do?

I would say:
Falmouth Road Race (MA)
Beach to Beacon (ME)
Army 10-Miler (DC)
Broad Street Run (PA)
Philly Distance Run (PA)
Mayor's Cup XC (MA)
to name a few
I have no experience with but would also like to run:
Atlantic City 10K (NJ)
under new management last year
The only thing in the SE I can think of is peachtree. And if we're repeating cities, cherry blossom 10 miler in DC is another good one. Though it's next week so that'd be a year away...
Boilermaker 15k in Utica, NY, in July.
Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston
Shamrock 8k in Virginia Beach
Great Race 10k in Pittsburgh

Agree with this guy and add Beach to Beacon back in the mix.
It depends on your level of competition and whether you like the roads or trails. This list is definitely for anyone who wants to make a competitive mark on the road racing scene. If you're just looking for good scenery, small crowds, or fun times, then these won't necessarily be the races to pick.

This is pretty much what I was going to write....except for Matanzas. What?!?! Wilhelm, I will assume you are a north Florida guy, because that race is so small, I wouldn't think anyone else knew about it. I guess it is pretty cool racing in St. Augustine near the old fort.
I would probably add Azalea Trail 10k in Bama and Gasparilla 15k in Tampa. Maybe you could add the Downtown CVS 5k which serves as the US 5k road champs?

Before expecting his thanks, maybe you should go back and re-read the part that says no marathons.

80% right 65 is passing right?
is it just me, or is the NYC half marathon a puffed up nothing? a lap and a half of the park and then a streak through empty streets at 8 am, Sunday morning.
Anyway - should add the mt washington foot race - that is one of the hardest things I've ever done, although something different than a race.
Covered Bridges HM in Vermont. Hard to get into, though.
Absolute best is the Polar Bear 3 mile run in Asbury Park, NJ run by the Shore Athletic Club.
I'll gladly keep a tally of multiple mentions and report whe two races get 10 mentions.

Never have run these ones but they sound good
George Sheehan Classic
