This race is living proof that Lagat is completely washed up and over the hill.
Webb crushed Lagat's time of 7:57 just a few weeks ago.

Dumbass that was a 1500M RACE not a 3000M RACE. And it was the end of the year too. To say wheating would have easily beaten lagat in a 3000m race is ridiculous like the previous poster said. What evidence do have suggesting that Wheating could beat Lagat in a 3k other than that 1500m race? (which just proved Wheating could beat Lagat in a 1500m....nothing else). Because he has a faster kick? If that's the case than Usain Bolt could kick all their asses in a 3k.
wheating (in a tactical race like usa's) would have the best chance OF beating lagat compared to every other naturally born american distance runner.

thats what i said up there. thats not saying wheating would EASILY EASILY beat lagat in a 3k. no dummy i didn't say easily like he easily did in the 1500m in monaco cuz that was a 1500!!!
he would however have the best chance OF.. OF.. beating lagat in a TACTICAL 3k then any other AMERICAN.
usain bolt hasn't run 1:44 for 800.
usain bolt hasn't run 3:50 for mile
usain bolt hasn't run 3:30 for 1500.
these events are much more relevant to a 3k (esp a tactical kickers race) than a 100 or 200
u saying that made u look like a lagat nut licking idiot
and i actually am a fan of lagat but damn dude ur really not looking at the facts, and that makes u obsessed

Not a knock on Rupp, but he was racing one of the best, most efficient racers of all time.
and doped. Nike fun run hippy juice.
Point blank. You just have SPECULATIONS of what Wheating can do. Wheating has NEVER ran an international 3000m on world stage. So saying he would beat Lagat at this distance is hogwash (pure fanboyism at best). Let me tell you something, does Wheating have sub 7:30 3k speed? Has Wheating ever run a 7:32 INDOORS? The answer is no. Simply running 3:30.9 and 1:44 doesn't automatically transfer into being a great 3k/5k runner. Just ask Asbel Kiprop,Seb Coe, Cram and others.
Okay, so many posters have already said the main point of what I am about to say but I want to write it anyway. Lagat destroyed Rupp in the last lap. To anyone who seriously thought Rupp would beat Lagat on anything other than an off day for him was crazy. Lagat ran 3:32/12:54 last summer, Rupp ran 3:56 (mile)/13:07. Rupp is obviously very talented, but no American right now can beat Lagat at 3000m.

Talking indoors only: Lagat is definitely better at the 3000m, as seen by the thrashing he just gave Rupp, but I would say the 5000m would certainly be the best test of the two athletes. Their pr's are .06 different as seen from a couple weeks ago. I would love to see them race a 5000 right now and see what transpires, it would be epic.
Do you have any idea about this sport at all? Epic????? Lagat would destroy Rupp at any distance up through 5000, indoors or out. Please get a clue, you are embarrassing yourself on these boards.

Yeah man, RACE TO SEE WHO HAS THE MOST GUTS, BECAUSE TO NOT 'JUST DO IT' IS TO SACRIFICE THE GIFT! It's not like Lagat has a PR of say, ten seconds faster in the 5000. He'll break the bastard or die trying, and get the gold like Pre in Munich! Go Preeeee.....
I think you are confused...Prefontaine is dead. Here is proof from wikipedia:

Umm...No. I love Alan Webb, and I hope he gets back to his 2007 fitness level. However, Lagat ran a 7:39 3k the other week en-route to destroying the American 2-mile record. Also, this was a championship race at altitude, and Lagat realized he did not need to run fast, until the last lap, in order to win. Also, Webb was only able to muster a 1:52 800 this weekend (although I think it may have been a workout race), which is no where near Lagat's fitness level right now.
On Galen Rupp. The only chance he had to win that race was to increase its distance by 7000m. He is a 10k guy, but I have a hell of alot of respect for him to come down in distance to compete. Wish he was running the 5k with Solinsky, Tegankamp, and Lagat in Melbourne this weekend.

Agreed. All that traveling around the world in such a short span couldn't have helped Rupp, and Lagat is much more suited for a tactical race at the shorter distance requiring a burst to the finish. Perhaps Rupp should travel back to Melbourne.

Unless your screen name happens to be WEBB IS #1, I am pretty confident you have as much expertise as I in detecting emotions over the vast tundra sometimes refered to as the internet...but this is, of course, my opinion; expressed from the safety and comfort of my computer. However, I do appreciate your concern with my ability to detect sarcasm. Thankyou new internet friend.

No, on behalf of the rest of the sentient world, I can confirm that your sarcasm detection really is severely sub-normal. Just get a new username and move on.
Oh, and for the Wheating/3000 fans -- the "What could Jeremy Wariner run for 800m" thread called, and it wants its crazy pills back.
