Is the high that pleasurable? There's nothing glamorous about spitting in a bottle all the time. Doesn't seem like something you'd do with a bunch of friends. I don't get what the attraction is for a teenager.

I started dipping in 10th grade, along with most of the soccer team. It was what everyone did on the bus ride back from games. In college it was a very social thing to do in the dorms. I got addicted, but eventually was able to kick the habit while in law school, where it wasn't nearly as well accepted as it was earlier on.
the buzz is pretty good, plus its kinda of fun moving it around in your mouth. but its not that fun spitting. worry about yourself
Same reason why people smoke. For the Nicotine.
The buzz is descent, especially when you start. Once you are hooked it isn't so noticable. Also it's an upper (like drinking a bunch of coffee) so a lot of people dip to stay awake and alert.
Another poster mentioned that it IS a social activity, just not in your circle of friends. All the guys I go hunting or fishing with chew while we are out on a trip. It's a guy thing I guess. Most would never chew in a social situation where it's not accepted as in front of a judge, asking a woman to marry you, job interview, etc. But will chew when around other who do or in the outdoors.
And finally don't mind what others do. If you don't want to chew don't.
It's a great study aid.
It is quite addicting as well. Initially, it is gross, after awhile it is great, then you become so addicted you need it a lot, at which point you chew a lot, and only a few of them are great; the rest are just for addiction maintenance.
it goes great with painkillers, coke, alchohol, and weed
what if i'm a coach and the kids on my team are using...should istill just worry about myself?

Obviously not because you are supervising minors using an illegal (for their age group) substance.
Because we are knuckleheads. I started young, mainly because about every male in my family did. It is a terrible habit. I am physically addicted. I can't explain it, but it's like a friend who never leaves you. It has been a love-hate relationship for over 30 years. I'd go through hell in a gasoline suit to get another tin. Don't ever start, don't ever give just one dip to someone who has stopped, and continue to tell people like me how dumb it is.
Because they've never seen an oncologist.
Because Klan meetings are boring and they dont have anything else to do.
Because chewing your cud isn't as appetizing.
they chew tobacco for a slow suicide....
What other kind of pleasure is there when you're balin hay all day?

This
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt5m2qYdD1AI swear that is the first country song I have ever played on Youtube!!
Chewed for 27 years. Eventually hated it , at the same time couldn't put it away.
Starts with the cute little buzz.( Ah, but ya gotta love those brown stained teeth.) Matures into sleep disorders, precancerous oral lesions, and slowly degrades your neurological system. Packing that buddy in your pocket comes with quite a toll.
Very grateful to a supportive spouse and children who motivated me to finally quit, nearly 6 years ago.
Doesn't it mess up your teeth? Or stain them?
I grew up in California and I have never met anyone in California who chewed. I went to college in GA in 2000 and a kid tried to get me to buy him chewing tobacco. I had no idea people still chewed! I thought it was something during the Gold Rush or something.

Exactly, lol.. It's a love hate relationship.. but if u do some research you will find dip is 90% safer than cigarettes when it comes to oral cancer and other health issues, no bullshit.
