Yep, same Jim - from BGSU.
Lots of really good guys finished way back including Reggie McAfee & Doug Kurtis. JHowe & DWottle - coupla milers finishing in top 10.
31) Pat Tyson - Pre's trailermate and somebody I ran w/in a half marathon on Mercer Island in Seattle in '79.
32) Paul Baldwin - AA from Kentucky & sub 8:40 2 miler - from nearby Swartz Creek and has worked for GM in Flint since graduation.
Pat Tyson was one spot behind Marty Liquori?! I knew he was decent in college, but wow.
I was really hoping that the Richard Russo from Middle Tennessee State in 209th was the guy who wrote "Empire Falls," "Straight Man," and "Mohawk," but a quick look at his (the author's, not the runner's) Wikipedia page shows that he did his undergrad at the University of Arizona. He was probably happier there than he would have been at Middle Tennessee, but still, damn.
shout out to Dan Moynihan 22nd - Tufts!
JHowe & DWottle - coupla milers finishing in top 10.

Forget the mile, "DWottle" won 800 meter olympic gold less than about, what, 9 months after this race!?
Thanks for the vid malmo
Danny Murphy of WSU(4th)showed up to run with our training group in Tacoma in the 80's. Of course he buried us all. I think he was painting houses in Seattle at the time.
wottle so range-y, pre so young in clean-shaven look; would have been 60 this tuesday
have seen the pre bits before, appreciate longer version and the steely dan

Don't get your panties in a twist, I've fixed the spelling error on BJ's name.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qId-mlFsHCwA few notes: THREE Pennsylvania teams in the top 10 with Penn leading them in 3rd?BJ and Slick, together (forever) once again.
and the "Red Ant" was right behind Mike Keogh. I never knew he was that good.
Doug Brown finishing 89th on his home course? Just ahead of Dale Fleet.
Other notables. Soon-to-be 10k AR holder Greg Fredericks in 20th. Likewise AR holder Ducan MacDonald, 55th. 1973 NCAA 6 mile Champ Charlie Maguire in 62nd.
70. Ken Popejoy
71. Randy Smith
75. Denis Fikes
127. John Hartnett
154. Pat Mandera
179. John Gregorio
189. Doug Kurtis
208. Morgan Mosser
209. Jim Ferstle
212. Reggie McAfee
233. Bruce Fischer
245. Randy Melancon
Here's the original post of the video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6jnlVnRlvEI simply cleaned the raw footage up and added music (The Doors), which the WMG Gestapobots stripped away, so I went back to tried and trusted Steeley Dan.
Looks like the video from the OP is already down. I'm glad I was up last night to watch it, and thanks for posting!

I just edited it.

This race was early in 40th place Mark Covert's "Streak". He is now over 43 years without missing a day and at least 3 miles per day.
Thanks for posting this. The one thing that caught my attention when I was looking through the results (being from the NESCAC, so I'm biased of course) was that there seemed to be an All-American Runner from Tufts! A quick look on wikipedia reveals that Tufts joined the NESCAC-a division III conference-in 1971, so this must have been the last time they sent anyone to a division I national championship.
Penn was 3rd - wondering who they had at the time. Was Dave Merrick there?
He was 18th, per the results Malmo posted.
Whatever happened to Mike Slack, from ND State? He was 3rd, but I don't recall much about him.
Im not 100% sure, but I think Slack had won the DIII title the day before (?). He went on to run everything from 800's (1:46 ish) sub 4 miles, to 5K's (Pan Am team) to some excellent road results. He and Bjorklund were nicknamed the Minnesota Twins back in the day. They trained together and competed on the roads quite frequently.

Slack ran 3:37.5 to take 3rd behind Scott and Waigwa in the 1977 AAU 1500m
A few weeks after that he almost walked down James Robinson in that 1:46 800m. Slicker must have take two strides for every one of Robinsons. Scott was shot by the time of World Cup. I think Slack would have done well had Scott backed out.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has a 1989 Ferrari 348 GTB and he's just put in paperwork to upgrade it
Strava thinks the London Marathon times improved 12 minutes last year thanks to supershoes
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Clayton Murphy is giving some great insight into his training.
