I refused to upgrade the FB on my smartphone as they wanted to track phone calls etc.
I only joined FB because someone decided to use it to organize social events.
I'll drop it like a stone the moment something better comes along.

I permanently deleted my account as did over a dozen of my early 20 something "real" friends. There's a difference between what you did, deactivate, versus permanently deleting. I never used my real name and cannot be found. I spend more time talking with friends that ever before and I am no longer anxious to find out that so and so is eating out tonight. Fakebook is not for me and once you get away, you'll be glad that you did (8.7% of the accounts are actually fake...no surprise there...$$$)
i deleted my account and im glad i did
For those not yet convinced that Facebook is doing more harm than good, check out Stanford prof James Steyer's new book, Talking Back to Facebook.
it's good for finding out about events that are going on and yes you dont have to use it that much and it can still be a valuable tool to connect with the world. be well
To each his own.
Sure, it can be useful for keeping track of events but what about people who are looking at your profile? Let's say a therapist who has a FB account and has about 200 friends. This therapist is strictly about code of ethics and refuse to be a FB friend with anyone who is a client. However, a client who is friend with a friend of this therapy is still able to get around this and snoop on the therapist's profile for information that may not be appropriate for their professional relationship. Same for teachers, lawyers, social workers, doctors, etc.
Why should anyone open every aspect of their life out on the Internet for all to see. Yes, I'm aware that there's security feature on Facebook such as allowing your profile or picture to be seen by certain people but there's still a way of getting around of this.
Personally, I think Facebook's a double-edged sword.
If you click on the x to close an FB ad you get the following choices:
You have removed this ad. Why didn't you like it?
Uninteresting
Misleading
Sexually explicit
Against my views
Offensive
Repetitive
Other
I tend to check either sexually explicit or offensive. If we all did this we could take FB down baby.
make sure the account is truly deleted and not just deactivated.
The option FB gives for closing your account merely deactivates it. I thought I had closed my account until I got an email saying I'd reactivated it. Turned out someone had hacked into it.
All the info is still there unless it's deleted. FB doesn't want to give up your info, so they make deletion very hard to do. I think the link is buried in the Terms and Conditions somewhere,
Who THE F U C K CARES?
Facebook is the new AOL.
You HAVE to permanently delete it and not sign on for about 21 days, they will give you an actual date. Deactivating it does nothing. I am 27 and got rid of it well over a year ago. Facebook=Timesucker. Life is too short.
