I live and work in a city with a large number of defense companies as well as a large number of government jobs. Last time I checked those companies as well as the government don't care to know whether you tweeted someone or tagged a photo over the weekend. Maybe if by corporate you mean hollywood or the fashion industry then your ability to tweet and facebook will get you a leg up in the world but in my world it will not.
Uh, yeah, you are right that I wouldn't consider a government job a part of corporate America. Your post doesn't surprise me at all.
If you think corporations are not investing loads of time and money into Social Media, you are just an idiot.
Here are three small examples:
http://www.facebook.com/Gatorade- wow, almost 3 million Fans
http://www.facebook.com/Gerber- Gerber could use some help with only 220,000 Fans, maybe they hired too many people like you.
http://twitter.com/comcastcares- Comcast sees some importance in Twitter. Hey, they just bought NBC Universal! Sounds like an important corporation to me.
Oh, what the hell... here is another small one for good measure:
http://www.facebook.com/cocacola- 22 Million Fans.
Of course, you are right, corporations couldn't care less about experience with Social Media...
Know what is better than these links? All of the other large companies who are failing miserably with 2,000 Fans and other miserable numbers. Guess who they will be looking to hire?
Facebook has over 500,000,000 active users. That is a shit load of eyeballs. This s real folks, don't poo-poo it b/c you are a Luddite.
