I read a draft of the article and all I can say is that it is an incredible piece of journalism. It was incredibly thought provoking, deep, and really gets to the bottom of this whole fiasco. |

blah, blah, blah And the point of your post was? The article will only enlighten the mindless. In the process it will make quite a few people some $$$, including Kip himself whether he needs the money or not. He made up races that didn't exist. I can do that, easily, and get away with for as long as he has, so what? Figure it out? What's to figure out? Either he, with or without an accomplice got to mats in other ways that" just running" to get there. How did he do that? A bike, a car, or doing some "chip manipulation". That's it folks and what's so hard about that? Think about it. There's a photo of him walking along the edge of the road in Boston (09' or 10') in an all black outfit. He's obviously crossing mats where he has to. While walking, or jogging at certain points, he doesn't appear to be a runner to the spectators who are watching the real runners. His logic/goal, for the intellectually challenged, is to not be seen in photos while he's on the shoulder of the road and again to still cross mats where he has to. He thought he wouldn't show up in a photo at that point, but he was wrong and could not be happy when he saw that particular photo as it is quite compelling to say the least. Then he finishes, with the totally black outfit gone and even a different hat. Nothing magical about that at all folks. The hard part would be to do it NOW, while people are watching and of course HE WON'T DO THAT! Honestly, there's nothing impressive about it at all. It's actually easy to do when no one is watching and I guarantee you that he wasn't the only one to cheat in Boston that year. Whoever can't figure it out with all of the photos and fake races are what is puzzling to me. Look at the photos!!!!!!!!! Simple Simon. Don't let the Michigan credit grabbers fool you into thinking that it's some complex scheme. He cheated in a relay there, a 10 miler and a marathon (bayshore?). How? He cut the course. Mind boggling isn't it? The Vermont tech guy can't be very bright. |

Kip's friend Dan Baxley seemed to think this was all a smear, which makes sense to him since he doesn't understand distance running well enough to know that his friend is guilty and is lying. Dr. Litton is God fearing? Or green Monkey worshipping? Maybe in certain areas of our country you can lie or cheat or steal, and say you're a Church goer and get away with stuff and people stop believing the facts.. Doesn't make any difference to me. I think the cheating in the name of charity aspect is compelling enough to interest a wider audience, if that's the route the article takes. Though, I think simply investigating what would compel an individual that - at least externally - appears a model citizen to cheat in such an elaborate and expansive way is compelling enough. If this article isn't about raising money for a sick child at all costs (or some other critical need spin), there's a lot to explore with coping with middle-age, community image, personal, social, or family expectancies, psychological disease, or something that began harmless enough but spun out of control. For all we know, this began in a similar fashion as the Seinfeld where George wears the hiking boots, appears a few inches taller, then never takes them off to keep up first impressions. Whether it be marathons or Chutes and Ladders, competition and the degree to which some will go to win can be quite a story. I read this thread as a runner, fascinated by the how, but this pending article should shed some light on the why, which should be equally - if not more fascinating. |
