Hi RL- First off, thanks for coming up to Burlington for VCM the past few years. I think I understand what you wrote but not 100% positive, so if I misinterpret anything below my apologies. You noted that it would not be difficult to get from the final mat at mile 20 back to the finish in a reasonable time via car or bike. That is true, however some years we have put an unannounced mat or video or audio recorder out near 21.5. (In 2010 we had an audio recorder at mile 12.5, we move it around.) From Kip's splits, I'm not that concerned about how he got from 20 to the finish in 2010, I'm more concerned with how he got from 13.1 to 20. If you saw how traffic gets tied up near Oakledge Park and on Park St during the time he would have been trying to get from 13.1 to 20 you would know how tough it is to move between those points. As far as missing splits for top runners vs mid-pack runners, additional density of runners crossing those mats at mid-pack times would not cause higher incidence of missed splits. A properly set up chip system can easily read a much higher density of runners crossing it at max times than any race can create. As it has been explained to me by professional timers, a couple things come into play. For one, at times they are setting up the chip system immediately prior to the lead runners arriving. In our case, we move the start line mats to 13.1, the spot where we missed you in 2010 (found you in our results!). The system may not be tuned 100% properly when the leaders come by. If their technician starts hearing chips not beeping when runners cross, he can adjust the settings. All this is outside my realm so I'm probably getting some details wrong. Also, 2010 was our first year with B-Tags. We had a very high incidence of no-reads that year. I think I had to research finish times for about 55-60 runners who didn't show up with finish line times but contacted us outraged because they weren't in the results. We also had a ton of missing midway splits. Huge numbers. In 2011, year 2 for us with B-Tags, we were down to about 15-18 finish line issues, and on midway split no-reads decreased by something close to 70%. It's a combo of runners becoming more familiar with how to make the B-Tags work best (i.e. don't put them under a FuelBelt), the B-Tags getting beefier, and our timing company learning more about how to make it work better. We're confident that we'll see a similar curve as we saw with Champion Chips a decade ago. As for the info we communicated at the meeting you were at regarding DQ's (Invited Runner meeting I believe, not the general course info and rules meetings), it wasn't specifically done due to Kip. In fact a few years ago we received a complaint about a coach on a bike giving water bottles to a top level competitor, so that's more what we were targeting. I believe we said that a bib number or solid description would be most helpful for the race officials. For a report along these lines a bib number would not be necessary, but we're not able to act on a non-specific report the better the description the more confident we can be in our decision. I know it's super difficult to remember stuff like that in the heat of a race (no pun intended after this year's race), but with money on the line we wanted to be on the record that if infractions were witnessed and reported that race officials wanted to know to take appropriate steps. |

This thread has indeed gotten a bit boring and is deviating from the way it used to be. Personally, i enjoyed the pictures the most. My favorites are 1) Kip in the light blue windbreaker at the Boston 5k 2010 finish line blazing a 17:17 from the back (4 minutes back), and bearing down on 2 young girls at 21:xx and sandwiched from behind by 2 guys also on 21:xx. This is my favorite because it is hilarious to watch him with those girls and also because it really does prove he is full of sh*t (no way he squeezed between those two guys in that picture). 2) There is a sequence of pictures somewhere of Kip running at 6:30 pace (yeah right) behind a huge 200 pound woman. I can't find the pics now, but i think they are running on a narrow windy path. I love those pictures because you can see the determination in Kip's face as he bears down on the woman who is definitely running slower than 10:00 pace. |

My favorite is the one I found where he is walking with his head down in a 17:3? 5k at Gasprilla. |

You might mean @ Rochester ????-> http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OZ0-4RGqrmQ/TpgeDurfSSI/AAAAAAAAATM/NIViMMueDRk/s1600/Screen+shot+2011-10-14+at+7.31.15+AM.png http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-khsCZpwUemE/TpgeEyahPLI/AAAAAAAAATk/FhDnOzE62zY/s1600/Screen+shot+2011-10-14+at+7.32.01+AM.png Not trying to justify the cheating that he might be doing here at Rochester, but the thing is Kip might be running behind this lady going >10min pace & doing the half marathon and i say this because of the difference in bib color (she's got a green one, his is red)... |

My favorite one is actually a video and the one that started all of this nonsense and addiction for me - his look of shock and dismay while crossing the finish line at the Missoula Marathon in Montana as my friend Mike Telling passes him at the line while the announcer talks only about Telling. My second-favorite is his finish line photo at Deadwood - all glory and no substance. |

OK - while we're at it reliving the past and waiting for more news, I thought I'd promote a "favorite page" from the KL thread. For me, it's page 15, when everyone had become suspicious of WWY. Very Disappointed and Whoomp There It Is totally unraveled the internet evidence of the made-up race. I can still recall the WTF! feeling of incredulity at the depth of KL's fantasy world. Anyone else? |

I'll ask a simple question - has Kip Litton ever competed in a race where his chip time and his gun time were close to each other ie. within 10 seconds of each other. Can someone just answer that. |

I remember that...took it to another level. It was like every day there was something new or pic that someone discovered. |

That 1:28:14 at the Maine Half is meant to be legit isn't it? Or at least someone claims to have followed him I seem to remember, was that ever backed up with photos? |

page 12: Still curious about the west Wyoming marathon. 29 runners total. And he won it. Anyone know anything about it? Is it a real race? The main page is down and now the results are gone. ( was up last week). did he make up an entire race? That would be bold! |

I am prob one of the few who, after some research, am undefeated against KL!! Turned out I beat him by about 40 minutes in the jacksonville marathon in 2003 (he was 3:23 which was probably legit for him back then) and numerous times in the Naples 1/2 by roughly 10 minutes when he ran some dubious 1:28s on a course that is easily the easiest to cut if you wanted to. Somehow he was able to make up that 40 minute gap while aging. |

I went back to pages 15 and 16...I forgot about the potential accomplice! "Ben Millefoglie," who created the fake race websites and result PDFs. Guess what, I don't think he's a real person. His Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000268062119&sk=info - He has a whooping 5 friends - One is Kip - The 4 other look like Tony Soprano What kind of people are we dealing with here??

Didn't any of you notice that Kip ran 3 marathons in May 2010 ALL well under 3 hours. Didn't any of you notice that? |
