Dude. Seven people have ran faster than that. And all of them did it before the 21st century. I'm an Alan Webb fan true and true, but slow down. One cannot just suddenly claim one athlete to be prominent over all others after one turkey trot. Sub 3:28? Gold medal? Take things one step at a time. The best place Alan Webb has ever posted on the world stage was 8th back in 2007. Lets pull the reigns back a bit and see how he fares as time passes. Then we can speculate as to what he's capable of.

Results from San Jose Turkey Trot:
Men
Alan Webb, 13:36 (race record)
Galen Rupp, 13:39
Scott Bauhs, 13:47
Diego Estrada, 13:50
Scott Smith, 13:51
Boy-- it would suck to break 14 in the local Turkey Trot but not finish in the top five...
Go Bauhs!

I don't remember the article but I read that he has put on something like 5-10 pounds of muscle.

Wow 14 seconds ahead of a college runner who wasnt even in the top 10 at nats. Time for a new day job Webb!
Estrada ran quite a bit of NCAA race with Chelanga, who soundly beat Rupp during his 10K record attempt last spring. To run with Chelanga and not totally blow up like his teammate McNeil did is no small feat. He obviously was unsatisfied with 13th, and should be encouraged by yesterday's excellent race, less than 72 hours after his grueling 10k cross country race.
The performances of all the top 10 at NCAA were very impressive, 9 of them breaking 30:00 in extremely windy conditions. Were ten of the U.S.'s top non-collegiate runners in that race, I think the collegians would have still been very much IN THE MIX.
Alan Webb will break 13:00 and 3:30 this track season... you heard it here first

I did not say it to bash him but at the same time you did not read any of the articles.
Salazar was the one talking about the world stage thing and no it was not a "workout." If you read it talks about Rupp going after the American Record in the Road 5K. American Record attempts are not "workouts"
I don't need to read the articles- let Al Sal say whatever he wants... we all know by now he just blows smoke up everyone's ass. I will reiterate: an unpaced road race in later November is a glorified workout. I don't care if Rupp wanted an AR: an AR effort by Rupp is nothing more than a tempo run by Webb, nooch.

He's gearing up for a cage fight with Solinsky. He will avenge his Stanford loss!
(2 if you count the 5k as middle distance).[/quote]
What?
Here's a link to pics of the men's elite race. Shots of the last loop are pretty cool.

Ok. Well if he doesn't you heard my skepticism here 1st. Not that your prediction or my skeptical sentences mean a damn thing to anybody.

No one ever said they had the AR in their sights. Post a quote to the contrary if you can.
He asked who was consistently good on the world stage. You answered with a guy who destroyed small time competition and couldn't knock one out of the park when it counted.
Did I miss something here?
Lookin forward to Webb in the Dempsey this winter!

He beat Coe, Ovett, Cram, Aouita and won the silver medal at the World Championships.
I don't like the fact that they made the "elites" toe the line alone at a local turkey trot.
If you're going to put them in the race, put them at the front but at least give someone else a chance to blow up gloriously running next to you Collegiate idol for a few meters.
