crazy race I guess
Read the results again. Katie Flood finished 78th. Mel Lawrence and Justine Johnson just outside going 101st and 102nd. I guess it just wasn't their day today.

What the heck is going on in Seattle? They've got crazy talent at UW.

Any crazier then Ore or Stanford two teams that finsihed pretty close to them?
Looks like they all beat each other up a bit much during the season.
There done. Schaaf gone, Mel Lawrence is mid pack runner at best, Babcock coming back from injuries. There are too many other good teams without the problems and issues they have who are ready to go. Washington coasted on their laurels too long.
Maybe they should have redshirted Flood, Lawrence and Babcock like they were going to in the beginning of the season. Just hope this isn't the beginning of what's going to happen next year.

I don't get this. She finished 25th two years ago.
women, generally, run slower than teens because their bodies change. probably the case here.
not all the footlocker girls are forever blessed with narrow bodies.

Bullshit. In this race alone the top freshman was only 14th.
Under Metcalf, athletes are likely to peak their sophomore year, if that. This especially keeps their men's teams underperforming. With women, he can bring in a fresh batch of "frosh sensations" by his aggressive recruiting. Get enough first and second-year chicks running close to the 16-16:30 minute 5K level and you can be competitive. Providing they don't get hurt or jump ship.
Live by the sword....
yeah, cept he wont get any recruits ever since kelly strong left. theyre screwed talking big time wooooooooooooo booosh.
Is Footlocker Nat'l Champ Megan Goethals injured? Red-shirting? She ran a good race early in the season...

Of top 50 placers in women's race:
Freshman 5
Sophomores 11
Juniors 18
Seniors 16
Those upper classmen may have been better as FR or SO, but not likely. Many girls/women do peak as seniors.
Pay attention, girls! Too many schools doing well with young talent. Likewise, too many schools doing well with upperclassmen who just can't recruit the young talent.
UW's MO -- take high performance H.S. girls and put them in the meat grinder. Schaaf saw the writing on the wall.

Followed by some very off performances. I don't know if she's injured or what, but I think it's a safe bet there are other issues going on there as well.

Interesting. I decided to do the guys too. Bear in mind there is no mention of redshirt years. So, for example, Tom Farrell of OSU appears on this list as a freshman, when he is not a true freshman.
Freshman 3
Sophomore 7
Junior 27
Senior 13
The junior class is really stacked, 27 out of the top 50 (54%). But it's even more top heavy than that, juniors make up 17 out of the top 25 (68%) and 9 out of the top 10 (90%)!
I think with Mel it is because of the female body changes that have gone on. Hips have widened, and legs are way bigger than when she was younger. Babcock too to some extent.
