Cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the first time and I haven't a clue as to how much time I should allow to let the bird thaw. Thanks.

is that a downhill counter?
Let it thaw 24 hours in your sink with cold water
105 hours thawing in the fridge for a 21 pound bird.
Birds from 15 to 25 pounds my rule of thumb is 5 hours per pound.
Call Turkey Talk 1 800 BUTTERBALL if you have questions.
Thanks.

Here are the guitar tabs and lyrics to The Turkey Song: (Except for the Turkey) A Funny Song for Thanksgiving
C G C G
It’s Thanksgiving day and we’re gathered round
C G C D
Little children make a joyful sound
And there’s no school and we get to play
And we’re all thankful for this day
C D G
Except for the turkey
La lala la la la la la except for the turkey
There’s a wreath of leaves on the front door
And we all say what we’re thankful for
There’s such good food and there’s such great fun
And there’s such big smile’s on everyone
Except for the turkey
La lala la la la la la
Except for the turkey
We all join hands and sing this song
with happy hearts and a love that’s strong
We bow our heads then we have our feast
It’s a lovely day to say the least
Except for the turkey
La lala la la la la la
Except for the turkey
(repeat last line as instrumental )
So if you’re a turkey and you’re still alive,
you might kinda wanna hide
Or soon you’ll probly be dead meat
On this festive day you’re what we eat
So fly away to a distant land
Where people think turkeys are grand
Spread your wings and sore up high
And be thankful that birds can fly
Except for the turkey.
La lala la la la la la
La la la la la la la
La lala la la la la
Except for the turkey
It’s Thanksgiving day and we’re gathered round
Little children make a joyful sound
There’s such good food and there’s such great fun
It’s a Happy Thanksgiving for everyone
Except for the turkey
La lala la la la la la
Except for the turkey

Since you are two weeks away you will have ample time. Just do not forget to move it from your freezer to the bottom shelf of your fridge.
While various soaking in cold water methods are often espoused none are as good as slow refridgerator thawing and best only done in emergencies.
Best idea is to go to you local Kosher Butcher Shop and order an unfrozen bird. Paying the little bit extra is worth it afterall it is a holiday.
Self brining is another option but requires equipment you might not have on hand. American Test Kitchen web site has a nice tutorial on brining in general and once you brine you never go back. Say goodbye to dry porkchops forever.

Screw letting it thaw. Just put it in the deep fryer and it'll turn out great.
21 pound turkey? Runners are getting scrawnier all the time.
Slow thaw in the refrigerator works best.

Two hours.
