Ain’t equality great?
A female winner running 2.23.25 wins the same prize money as a male running 2.04.57!
Wow - his old PR was 2:07:13 which was the only time he went sub 2:10! I'm starting to believe there are literally hundreds of 2:05 guys back in Kenya: 2:05 is the new 2:07.
We already have this thread:
just realized that page is not linkable :(

21 Kenians in the first 30 !!!
He was due for a fast time since his 58:59 Half Marathon...Damn why hasn't Tadese set the marathon world record yet?
I'm sorry I mean Zersenay Tadese, not the 2nd place finisher

not every guy runs the M as well as 1/2M
he ran the london M a year or 2 back & struggled
maybe he's one of the guys who can't make the leap ?
ZT is also Eritrean. The Eritreans don't quite have the quality marathon coaching yet that the Ethiopians and Kenyans do.
i've never heard of needing 1 type of coach for the 1/2M & another for the M ??
he simply may not be as good at the longer distance
The way he looked (injured at finish) at World Half Champs he won't be running any records anytime soon.
It's still upsetting to say something like Ryan Hall or Dathan Ritzenhein are better marathoners than Zersenay Tadese. I guess he never really talked about what his marathon prep was like, it'd be interesting to see what it was (he also never did any interviews after London). Maybe it was too speed based? If this is true, that can't be a good sign for the Nike Oregon Project and all the speed stuff they did if it didn't work for Tadese-he's clearly more suited for the Marathon than Ritz is for example (better Cross ability, HM ability, faster 10000m, his 5000m is outdated and could at least equal Ritz's, etc).
On a side note, how is Kenya possibly going to select it's Olympic Team? Crazy that they can "only" pick three out of people like Makau, Mutai, Kiprotich, Lel, Wanjiru, Kibet, Kwambai, etc. Many of these guys probably can't run a 10000m good enough to qualify for the Olympics should they not be selected for the marathon, so how depressing is that that a 2:05 marathoner can't go to the olympics while 2:10+ marathoners can go?
It depresses you that 10,000 meter runners can qualify for the 10,000 meters without running 2:05 for the marathon? I don't get it.

no
there is NO guarantee that a 58-flat guy can even break 2"10
learn some basics of M running
For some reason the recent Eddy H. article really put a damper on this for me.

I don't know much about this newest marathon star, but you can be sure that he's subjected to much more exacting testing than Eddy ever was. Personally, I think the one-hour rule, in addition to the long term storage of samples, is making it much more difficult to get away undetected compared to a few years ago.

Guys like this ^ - who like to compare male and female running ability always strike me as less than real men. Like when you are in HS or college and some kid takes pride in beating the girls at soccer or basketball.
