And the FSU Men proved why they are deserving of a top 10 ranking. They looked great and still have depth past #5. Leeders first real hard effort of the season and he is their #1.
Why did Mike Fout not run? Is he injured again?
Tough run for Hill.
Duke sucks...overrated
That SE Region is completely up in the air.
FSU men are loaded. They MAY just pull off an upset win at the NCAAs.
22 29 Michael Fout Jr Florida State 24:23.0 22 9:12.0 (17)
Not a chance. Not a chance at all. Stanford and Oklahoma will devour them.
Duke is over rated, mens and womens team. Not sure why the pundits continue to rank them so high, perhaps it's because of their potential which never seems to rise
Duke has the talent - not the coaching.
pundit,
Given your screen name, I am sure your expertise on coaching Division 1 cross country is unparalleled.
Full disclosure: I am a former Duke runner, and thus, obviously not an impartial observer. I check LetsRun for the humor (i.e. the Revolutionary War thread) and to get links to results now that Flotrack is gone, as there are usually no training threads for ex-collegiate runners running 40 miles a week to keep from getting fat.
Since I know my former teammates are too concerned with things of importance to read or post on this board (with the possible exception of the post-nuptial shut-off thread, which is pure gold), I will respectfully disagree with your assessment that Duke "does not have the coaching."
Yes, the men's team was ranked 14th going into today, so a 5th-place finish, even in a tough conference, might look disappointing at first glance. However, if one compares the 3k splits to final results, you will notice that Duke went out HARD, trying to compete for a conference title with a fantastic FSU team, and paid the price for it later on.
"Pundits" such as yourself can second-guess - that's what pundits are for. But I do not think that a team going "all in" at conference to challenge the year's alpha dog (FSU), and fading over the last mile as a result, demonstrates "poor coaching," especially when the team in question has a number of probable points from victories earlier in the season.
You are entitled to your opinion, just as I'm entitled to mine. But as a 4:18 hs guy turned 3:45 1500m runner (despite having 1:54 800 "speed" and never breaking 15:00 for 5k) due to such "poor" college coaching, I figured I would interject my opinion to counterbalance yours.
On another note, hats off to FSU, N.C. State, UVA, and Carolina. All four teams look very impressive in perusing the results.
Regards,
Ken Sullivan, Duke Class of 2010
Are you in any way related to Kevin Sullivan?
The link you provided only has info from Mr. Sullivan's Junior year. Given that he graduated this past year, you might want to scope out his 1500m times from the following season before throwing stones. Not that this has any particular relevance to ACC results but,

Check out the GT Invitational.
As for ACCs, nice 1-2 by the boys from UVA, and Lauren Hoer winning out as a true freshman for NC State over the likes of Schaaf, Nosenko, and Cheruiyot shows real potential for her in championship calibre races.
Interesting...Duke was in 2nd at the 3k. Maybe they just went a little too hard from the gun.

What ever happened to Ashley Bravoson from Duke. She had a killer high school career sveral years back going like 16:18 in the 5k on the track at Footlocker Nat's I think it was but havent seen any results from here. She was a multi state champion from Florida but seemed to disappear after high school.
9:10 is not that fast at all through 3k... only about 4:55 pace or so.
Unless that 3k split is long, the whole field went out conservatively through 3k, and then the leaders hammered from there, and Duke just couldn't hang...
SE Region will be a battle. Can Duke recover their previous form? Can UVA bring their 3,4, and 5 guys up? How is W&M this year without Gibby as the coach? Can Ryan Hill and the Pack bounce back? Can Pat Schellberg run 10k?
