My English teacher told my class today that fossil fuels are from dinosaur remains. I told him that I thought they were made from plants and he laughed at me. What's the truth, Letsrun?

Both. Next question?
dinosaur droppings.

Both is correct, although the biomass of plants and algae would contribute the most. Attributing fossil fuels to dinosaurs is a merely rhetorical device - a metaphor - for the accumulated detritus from an age millions of years ago.
Is it possible to chemically speed up the process of converting plants to fossil fuels?
Global warming may help speed it up. You need heat and pressure...with the warming earth, we've got the heat.
Sorry buddy, the Earth ain't warming, the atmosphere is. The atmosphere does not affect temperatures at depths where organic matter is converted to hydrocarbons. Can you speed this process up? Sure, in a lab. The Nazi's made gasoline out of coal in the 40's, simply changing one organic form to another.

It's not exactly the same processes but this is the fundamental idea behind biofuels which may be processed into a more convenient form (e.g. ethanol) or used directly (e.g. burning wood).
Abiotic oil is the correct answer, chemical reactions within the Earth's mantle. Peak oil is a hoax.
I'm not dead yet, just comatose. You can't have my oil for a long time.
Your teacher was probably just making a lame joke and you gave the smart allec response to try and one-up the teacher. The rest of the students probably got lost in the oversimplification/correction-to-what-was-a-joke.
Your both idiots. It would take 100k of years to turn living matter into oil. The earth is only like 6000 years old. Obviously oil reserves are there because god put them there. Don't they teach you kids anything in school these days?

Explain were God came from? God can't possibly be more than 6,000 years old. If God is older than that why didn't God invent the Earth sooner. Why did God have to think about it before hand?
'Teach' is correct fossile fuels are indeed made from Dino the Dinosaur and his offspring more correctly called Apatosaurus to this very day. Sinclair Oil grows them in equatorial Africa and on a ranch outside of Rawlins Wyoming. The Rawlins site was founded in 1933 to insure a steady supply of raw material for their processing plant in Rawlins proper.
If you travel thru the mid and central west you can tell which Sinclair stations serve up domestic Apatosaurus by the famous Dino statue in the driveway.
If you look at Sinclair gasoline closely you will see that it also contains corsely ground aphids tetes, They are added to give it that special octane boost Sinclair is know for.
Public schools are worse than I thought since you are asking questions that a 2nd grader should know1) God has always been there. He lives outside of time. He knows all that has happened and will happen.2) Besides it is only the universe that is 6k years old. God lives outside of the universe3)Its all part of the master planYou don't have to stay ignorant forever. You could start watching Fox news.....
