I was thinking about the phenemenon of guys taking sterois to be the biggest guy at the local hangout bar. And it made me think. Is there doping going on among runners in our local races?

I know local cyclists that dope and they can't even win a cat 5 race. They are just type A guys with a lot of money and no talent. There are for sure runners in this group as well.
I smoke a bunch of weed and win a lot of races around my area running 15's for 5k. Does that count?
Does that guy Eddie Hellebruck (or something like that) count? I think he set some masters marathon record or something, then got busted. Every time he's mentioned on here people make him out to be a big a$$hole.
Kind of off topic, but I know a lot of people who routinely (and mostly ignorantly) use banned substances.
As a guy who has never had my iron checked, I even consider it somewhat unfair when people get things like that checked and medicated. I have to eat nasty spinach and they just pop a pill.
yes, they do. i hear stories every now and then and have seen guys go way down in times that shouldn't over a quick period
I like the premise of this question. It makes me laugh. The answer is probably "yes" in some cases. Imagine some loser doping so he can drop his 5k from 18:20 to 16:59. Hehehehehe. Or imagine some guy sleeping in an altitude tent so he can win his age-group. Btw, these are probably the same guys who buy penis-enlargement supplements. Thanks to them, those annoying companies can afford to send out all the spam that irritates the shit out of most of us.

Yeah, because have normal ferritin is cheating. :-/
common knowledge justinb is doped to the gills
Absolutely...imagine if you had nothing going for you otherwise, but were kinda or even pretty good at running. Why not take it up a notch and win some races? It might even be worth it for some. There are a lot of cheating types out there.
Does 5HourEnergy count as doping? I think it does.
Doped my way to a sub 4 mile and a 13:38 5000m with a cup of coffee one hour before each race.

'Eddy Hellebuyck'
No, he was a pro runner for years, competed in the Olympics and ran 2:11 (don't forget this was over 20yrs ago)
I ran against him years ago. He was ahead of me 4 mins over 9 miles in the Tour of Tameside in the 80's. He got outsprinted by Steve Brace (a 2:10 guy) in that race but won the tour overall. Makes you wonder a bit, I always wanted to be the local guy who won that race but never managed it
Years later of my mates, a photopher went to a running camp with his girlfiend and Eddy cleared off with her.
That does not bother me, and wouldn't even if it was me, but finding out he was a doper, that I will never forgive him for.
I dope everyday with 2 cups of coffee before my run. Maybe some black and ginger tea in the afternoon.
UK Coach: I'm curious, why would you "never forgive him" for it?I raced Eddy frequently during his "doped era" (late in his career when he wanted to pull a Rodger Clemens-esque post 40 resurgence...and yes, I think he was clean for most [probably] of his career). I guarantee that I lost as much money to Eddy during that stretch than anyone here (although I beat him head to head more times). And yet, I could give a crap. In fact, I still like Eddy and don't think he's any worse than a MAJORITY of the jerk-off's in our sport (clean, dirty, elite, or sub-elite). The only person I can't forgive is myself: for NOT doping during my career.I can't believe that after 6 years we're STILL collectively, as a "community" (albeit a community of complete wankers)casting stones at Eddy.

Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?

Matt Choi was drinking beer halfway through the Boston Marathon
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
