Are asphalt tracks still being constructed? Have studies been conducted that show that fewer injuries occur on an asphalt track compared to synthetic/rubberized tracks? If someone could direct me to those studies then it would help me prove a point.
I've been coaching high school XC and Track for 7 years and stopped using our asphalt track because I thought the kids were taking too much of a pounding. Some administrators at the school told me that we need to update our track and want to repave the old one and paint it orange to look like a rubber track. I thought this was laughable and said they could keep the money, tear up the crumbling track if it is an eyesore and that we'd continue to train around the athletic fields.
