Haile and Meb's chances of victory just went way, way up as Martin Lel and Robert Cheruiyot are both out.

how many times has Lel raced since 2005
Lel looked good at Mardi Gras this spring...but I get the feeling the guy will not toe the line unless he is exactly 100 percent firing on all cylinders. A shame...I would not count him out completely, but been a long time since he's done the full 26.2
I like Meb's chances against Haile Geb. NYC ain't flat.
This is what I expect, so what will be the time? is my Q. Geb and Meb are not from the same calass for me
at this news how is stressed geb or Kenyans? I wanna know who is pacemaker then to talk about gebs win and time
It's important to realize that the total field hasn't been announced yet.
This just came out:
http://www.letsrun.com/2010/newyorklel-1012.php
2:04:27 man James Kwambai is in.
Last week, Monti wrote me and indicated a slew of really fast people would be added to the field. In the end, they were supposed to have 14 sub 209 guys. So now they'll have 12.
More info here:
What is Duncan Kibet up to? Is he doing a fall race?
I had a feeling when Mary Wittenberg hinted at an international runner withdrawing that it would be Lel.
Haile is coming to win and set the course record at NYC. He could care less about who is in the field. Kwambai will run like shit like he always does, Meb will lose by 2 minutes and everyone will say well nobody showed up to race. Easy win for Haile. And that will be the truth.
viktor rothlin is running new york, he just ran a 1:08.53 half marathon right behind mary keitany, so i guess we will see if a poor half marathon really is a good sign if training for a marathon.
my picks
1. geb
2. meb
3. ritz
4. kwambai
5. kamies
6. goumri
7. nelson
8. vega
great day for USA
women
1. kidane
2. keitany
3. flanagan

The expression is "couldn't care less" not "could care less" - your version means they care
^ This man speaks the truth, although I think Meb will be 3rd.
It is funny nobody talks about two time winner Marilson Gomes dos Santos. Once again he seems to be a dark horse. He ran a couple of track races earlier in Brasil winning for example a 10000m race in hot and humid conditions in 28 and change. I think he shouldn´t be underestimated and could be in really good shape. On the other hand side it is really a pity that Lel can´t run. He is such a great racer. It takes most of the fun out of NYC. Still I believe Hailes win isn´t secured at all. His Marathons were all run on flat courses and New York certainly is different plus there are no pacemakers for him. So I wonder how he reacts to any attacks on 1st Avenue after getting over Queensborough Brdige?

I forgot that a Bronze medal at World Cross doesn't mean you can handle the hills of NY. Plus are you implying he can't respond to surges? Did you watch his last race (Great North)?
I agree. Watch out for Marilson Gomes dos Santos.
When did he last run XC and you want to tell me XC is same as a Marathon? Great North is also flat or even downhill. The game will be a different one on the streets of New York. I don´t believe in Hailes victory.

Many thanks!
I predict that Geb will fade and drop out at 25-30 km and blame it on athsma. He will get to keep his appearance money and will run a pretty decent first half.......let's say 1:02.
Well isn't that nice wrote:

Are you basing your prediction on the easy 59:xx EASY half marathon victory Geb just had, or the slew of world record performances he has had in the marathon?
Where do you people come up with this s*%t?! Haile is going to throw down around 30k, just like Kebede did in chicago. Unlike Kebede, however, no one will be able to handle the change in pace.
Betting against a healthy and confident Geb is foolish. Do your homework.
