Sounds like you should sit down and pound out an application. They're not going to come knocking on your door!
Most of them run on the honest system
2:42 or 34:15 fot he women
I applied to Hansons but went to another group after visiting because all the women think they are better than they are. They are very non appreciative of Brooks and the Hansons and create a negative atmosphere. The guys seemed way better.
Free Rent--Free Medical--Free Gym Membership--Free Travel--Obviously Free Brooks Gear--A very liberal Bonus System.
The running area is great.
Awhile ago they had something that said if you ran under 28 you would get something insanely generous like 100k a year? Or did I imagine that?
Been there for a visit wrote:

I have a friend that was with the group for a very short time who said the exact same thing about the women.
The women are a pet project of Kevin's. He coached hs girls for many years and always followed elite women more than men.
Hey Kevin, I know you will probably read this. COACHING WOMEN IS NOT FUN. You told me that you would coach as long as you were having fun. I have heard about the women always wanting more. That can't be fun.

Isn't this the case with all women (postnuptial shutoff thread excluded)?

I had a friend with decent (but not sub 28:00) PRs, and he said they offered him $60k/year plus all the standard stuff like free housing, gear, etc. That seems incredibly generous to me, considering I'm a poor college student and am surviving on $10k/year while running 90mpw. I've done 10 mile tempo runs averaging as fast per mile as some of their guys have for half marathon (never actually raced a HM). Geez, just getting a free pair of shoes each month would help me out.
That was a last ditch effort to keep a young and really good marathoner wearing their jersey. This particular individual wanted to move on to another program, and the athlete did so and has continued to accelerate. Unfortunately, they don't just offer deals like that to every athlete.

this is not necessarily true, the hanson's just need to get some women like meseret defar, when i say girls like defar i dont mean in ability as girls with defars running ability are hard to find, i mean get girls that are always laughing, smiling, happy and enthusiastic, and as far as women always wanting more, defar gives all her world record bonuses to charities and she also gives a good amount of her income from other sources to charity.
personally i think it would be fun to coach a team of women enthusiastic and generous like defar.

Wrong
I've met almost half of the hanson womens teams and they are all very humble and nice. I see them training nearly every day. It's hard to run the mileage they do and not be humbled.
Not according to Kevin. He has told us (the high school team) that he likes the women elites.
Or perhaps you're pissed because they didn't want you. Just becaue you 'hit' the time standards does not mean you will be accepted. Applicants are carefully screened for team destructive tendicies. They are a team and lots of women are not team material.....like YOU.
If you have "honestly" done a 10 mile tempo run averaging as fast per mile as some of their guys have for a half, then there is a good chance you'd be on the team or be running pretty decent races and some other club would pick you up......but that doesn't appear to have happened.
If you truly just want a free pair of shoes every month, then tell Kevin or Keith and promise to where their singlet at races and that you want nothing in return but the shoes. If you are implying that you are a 1:10 half marathoner, good luck!! If you are implying that you've run 1:06ish half-marathon pace for 10 miles, then who knows? Personally, I believe you are lying, although there is no way for me to know that for sure.
I will check out your story tonight at the Dodge Park marathon/speed session workout. One of them should be there and can verify if your friend was offered $60,000 per year. Obviously he wasn't a sub 28 guy or he'd be in Oregon and we'd all know him, so your story is pretty leaky. Good luck :)
wear, not where,.....beat ya spelling critics:)
Maybe there are a few who are a little cocky or arrogant, I don't know. I found Melissa very, very polite and nice to talk to. Honestly, not a hint of the old I'm better than you attitude.
There was one time when I was in the store and could not get a hello or smile, even after I said "hi", from one of the female runners who had just walked up from the back area. But then another Hanson runner who I had been talking to asked how my running was going and we started talking times and the gal ignoring me suddenly moved closer to our conversation. Simply put, I blew her off and went and looked for a pair of Nimbus in my size. Heck, it was over a year ago and although she's been with the team for a lot of years, she might not even be with them any longer.
Besides that particular incident, every, and I mean every female runner in that particular store has been kind and engaging. I believe the female runner that I described is married and I'm not, so maybe that had something to do with it, who knows. Maybe she thinks she IS better than she really is, who knows but going by the clock, she never really improved. Or, she was just having a bad day.
Overall I think they are fairly humble for the most part. Brian Sell, now that guy was more humble than Verran and O'Brien combined, way more humble. I really miss seeing him at the store.
My .02 cents, your's may vary.

I disagree 110%. I stopped shopping at Hanson's because of the arrogance of Brian Sell. I once asked him why he never ran with the group on Thursday nights from the store. He scoffed at me and mumbled something under his breathe. I was not aware that he is no longer there. I may give them another shot.
