Americans shouldn't treat the marathon as just another race - it is so hard mentally and physically to train for and compete in year after year...
People should pick a new specialty every year and go for it. Hall should focus on xc this year, for example, and then the 10k, and then maybe a marathon year.
Just too hard for Americans to train 130 mpw endlessly
Ah, I understand that he was feeling off and that if he had raced and run poorly he would have been ripped up on these boards but dang. I just want him to race so bad man. Even a 10k now and again would make me happy.
Hope he hangs in there, which I'm sure he will. Get some rest, maybe some tests to see what's going on.
Big missed payday. Wow.
Hall has lost his focus, is it Mahon?? Doubt it but anyone can get stale.....
Hall is done and more than likely will never go under 2:08 again much less under 2:06.
Rough time for the Mahon marathoners. Deena has a miserable last year before becoming pregnant. Now Ryan Hall is searching for answers. Luckily Meb (coached by Larsen) can keep the group relevant in the marathon.
Probably that stupid tiago pass run did him in. what a pansy.
I'll be really curious to see if he switches coaches any time soon.
Time to leave Sara, leave Asics, leave Mammoth, and get with Nike and AlSal in Oregon.
Yes, I'm kidding (mostly).
RYAN HALL, IF YOU READ THIS, I HAVE TWO WORDS.
ALBERTO. SALAZAR.
YOU AND RITZ SHOULD TRAIN TOGETHER AND PLOT FOR 2012.
The Tioga Pass run is an awesome experience. It rivals Chicago in my book... Shut it adddd.

Contractual obligations prevent this.
Sara just got 2nd in New York. Her career is doing fine. She may not go out and dominate races, but she races often enough to keep her name in the mix.
He has to be having major coaching doubt. He's really only gotten worse the last couple of years and has Mammoth been getting any guys for him to run with? Having said that, the Nike guys haven't yet proven they're any better.
It's got to be disappointing to plan for two major races per year and have to drop one. We need these guys to go old school and race several marathons per year.
"Hall, 27, was the 2008 Olympic trials winner and top U.S. finisher (10th) at the Beijing Olympics. "
Wrong.
Everyone seems to forget about a lil guy named Ritz.

1. Ryan Hall does NOT enjoy training with others. He has been part of the same training group as Meb for the past 3 years and they NEVER train together. This is the choice of Ryan.
2. Alberto Salazar has been a failure in the marathon thus far in his coaching career. His largest success has been a 2:25 from a 66 minute half marathoner. That performance was in her debut and she has underachieved twice since then.

Honestly, i'd love to see this. Mostly because it would just be so ironic, the "big three" coming together almost a decade later. Then they can all race a 2mile and everyone will be happy.
Bummer for Ryan. I hope he takes this as a sign to kinda refocus and prioritize a bit. He's so talented, but something needs to be done to truly recognize it, whether it's a change in coach/location/event or whatever else.
He's done. You can only go to the well so many times in the marathon. He started running them young and ran a lot of them. He'll never be the same.
