help! front of leg pain and a creaky muscle 9/10/2010 7:29PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
My right leg hurts immediately above my ankle, like the lowest 3-4 inches of my shin. It hurts in the muscle/tendon part, like what flexes when you dorsiflex your toes. It's not shin splints. Whenever I move my toes up and down, that muscle where it hurts feels really creaky. Have you even taken a piece of felt and pulled it apart? That's what this muscle feels like it's super gross feeling and it hurts. It's tender to the touch, and stretching the front of my leg (like pointing my toes downward) just makes it worse. Any idea what this is? And what I should do about it? stretch my calves? massage the place where it hurts? ice? heat? thanks! I want to do a long run tomorrow but I don't think I can unless I get this better asap.

Sounds like shin splints to me.

bump. does anyone know what the creaky muscle feeling is? it's like my muscle is a million fibers that aren't working together smoothly, but rather are kinda ripping apart when I so much as point my toes.

Why do you say it's "not shin splints"?

Sounds like exactly what I had a few weeks ago and most likely a shin splint. In my case it hurt to walk the next day and even for a week or two after - I haven't gone on a long run since.

Ice might help. When the pain didn't go in the first few days, I tried some of those compression sleeves on the lower legs and they seemed to help. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing you won't be doing that long run tomorrow.
