Not sure if this is old news or has been brought up already, but I've heard that Hassan Mead is out with a collapsed lung.

I heard there were some rumors floating around, but was unable to confirm or deny. Best thing to do is spread word of the rumors and have everyone keep an ear out for them should they appear.
Story from 5 September above mentions an achilles issue.

Probably should have followed Brad Wick to Boise State, might not have had these problems if he had stuck wih the guy that made him the runner he is today.
Yeah, Mead is out for the season with a collapsed lung.

Yeah his old coach would have somehow protected him from a collapsed lung
Good call, a--hole. Sorry for letting you know.
First I've heard of a collasped lung without some kind of trauma. See below from
http://www.emedicinehealth.com/collapsed_lung/page2_em.htm
"Abnormal, small, air-filled sacs in the lung called "blebs" typically rupture and leak air into the pleural space, leading to the spontaneous pneumothorax. This happens in the cases of tall and thin people, who because of the shape of their lungs and chest cavity, are seemingly more prone to these defects."
"Spontaneous pneumothorax affects about 9,000 persons each year in the U.S. This is most common in tall, thin men between the ages of 20 and 40." It happens in basketball every once in awhile.

Yeah his old "coach." I do believe the board is getting less intelligent by the hour.

Sounds like "Marfan's Syndrome," where very thin people are sometimes more prone to collapsed lungs without any trauma having occured.
The most famous example of this was Abraham Lincoln.
One of my son's had this. Collapsed lung twice, no trauma. Second time they operate to create scar tissue/connection from the lung to the body to prevent future lung collapses. Collapsed lungs are very painful.
yeah last fall (a year ago last sunday) i had a spontaneous pneumo during an xc race about 2 miles in. I thought it was a cramp, finished the race in a lot of pain, still ran 27:2x, not bad all things considered.
Took about 25 days for it to reinflate and a couple months of base but I wound up p.r.-ing the in every event during the track seasons and now i'm finishing my eligibility in xc this fall
Happened to Brad Miller right before Footlocker and derailed his run at the 4:00 minute mile. Or was it the one who ran the 800?
will this stop Plaz from whoring him out at conference meets so he can underperform at NCAA's and not participate in USATF?
Though spontaneous pneumothorax can be associated with marfans (along with valvular incompetency and hypermobile joints), it is more usually associated as a sole entity in young and skinny males.
This is HUGE for Purdue...
craig miller, not brad.
yeah...placensia is doing a bad job of protecting Hassy from all these injuries
plus that 16th place showing at '09 Nats was extremely disappointing (I hope you are catching my sarcasm)
