I'm a freshman in high school and i would like to run under 2:10 for the 800 meters next spring. I ran the 400 meter in 8th grade but I want to slowly ease into the 800 meter. My PRs are...

100:12.7x

200:24.9

400:54.0

Mile:6:06

XC 5k:21:12

I raced the 800 once in 2:30 but at that time my 400m PR was still 1:00.5 and it rapidly dropped over the course of about two weeks to 54.00, I haven't raced the 800 since. How should i train to reach sub - 2:10 by spring '11? All of these PRs were from 8th grade except for XC. The mile was just me by myself.

You have lots of speed to run under 2:10. You need to work on developing your aerobic engine. Put in some good miles (you haven't said anything about training history, so that may only be 20ish miles per week or maybe more). Make sure you do some strides or quicker turnover work to stay in touch with your speed.

Fitness definitely would be the key, but I'd suggest a weekly 20 minute tempo in the off-season to complement the added miles. Further, the inclusion of both short and long hills is very important.

He don't have the speed and miles to run under 2 minutes.

With 54 flat 400 speed, the kid should be < 2 minutes to maybe 2:03-4
