OK. It's late Sunday and nobody picked up the ball, so I guess it's me again.
This week was very similar to last. Managed 50 miles on 6 days. My legs were feeling heavy early in the week, so I pretty much just ran miles in the 6:50-7:30 range again. I did manage to tempo into the high-5's and low-6's for about 6 miles worth during a couple of days during the week, but I still stayed away from the track. Not sure whether I peaked a bit in mid August or whether the start of the semester has just taken some fire out of me.
Topic: Leg turnover. Do you pay attention to it? Do you work on it? Has it changed since you were younger? Up until now, I've never paid much attention to my turnover. I just figured "run naturally". My freshman college daughter bought me a watch for my B-day (I'm now 51 as of mid-week) that has an accelerometer in it so that it counts your steps and reports your step rate, as well. Now that I've got this information, it is on my mind. Jack Daniels and others say that we should be keeping 180 steps/minute, this is the most efficient, and should be maintained regardless of pace. I find that when I'm easy running, I'm more like 167, and when I tempo, I'm about 175. Hmm, still trying to digest this new information.
We've been enjoying some cooler weather here in the mid-US. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Mopak, hope the earthquake down-under wasn't too severe for you.
Have a great week everybody!
