Anyone else have a Garmin 405 that goes absolutely apeshit when it gets a little sweat on it and forget wearing it when it's raining.... jesus.

I've used a Garmin 405 all summer and have had no problems. I would suggest that you lock the bezel.
Locking the bezel should solve the problem. But I agree, if I don't do that, it goes absolutely haywire when it gets wet.
I did get mine when they first came out. I'm wondering if they addressed this problem in later productions of them.
The 405 has a short life also. It will not last very long. I would switch to the 110. It is way better and will last longer. I found the signal picks up better with the 110.
LOCK THE BEZZEL
I use the 110. Love it. No problems with rain or sweat. Accurate and easy to use.
I've had to lock my bezel since day 1 because of its stupid tendency to switch screens in the middle of the run. Sucks to lose so many features by having to do that, but it's how it works best.
Locking the bezel will solve the problem. As far as how long it lasts, try turning the GPS off after your run. The battery lasts much longer when you do that.
Another problem I've had, which locking the bezel will not solve, is the start/stop and lap buttons not working when sweaty or otherwise damp. It was really foggy in SF a couple days ago and I couldn't even stop my 405 until a few minutes after getting back to my house.
yeah, mine is like that. you need to lock the bezel prior to the run.
What is...
"lock the bezel"
the 405 pissed me off to no end because of its sweat and touch sensitivity. locking the bezel takes all the features I paid for out. I use an old fashioned ironman watch now and just add more minutes to my run to get my mileage, no big deal. Sometimes too much science and technology can get annoying anyway
Anyone who complains about this watch has no idea what they're talking about or is not a serious runner. The 405 does everything and more you could possibly want and/or need. You have to lock the bezel when you run. Plain and simple. And I don't want to hear about "losing" features. If you are trying to adjust/work that bezel while you're running.....you're not running fast enough, and probably have no business with the watch anyway. Best running purchase I've ever made.

This is dumb. You still have up to 3 features on the watch even in locked mode. I always have mine on time, distance, and average pace. I also have it auto split each mile. What more could you want on the screen and/or need to scroll through?
Also why does your new watch require you to run "more minutes to get your mileage"? The mileage would be the same regardless of which watch is on your wrist.
I have yet to find a negative with this watch that has made me regret the purchase. Since getting it, I love doing progression paced runs, marathon paced runs, and tempo runs on the road. Sure, I base things on pace, but I also base it on perceived effort. The difference is now I have data to go with my perceived effort.
heart rate... hard workouts involve: pace, time, splits, heart rate and sometimes distance. quote]skip bounds wrote:

Splits can be programmed to pop up automatically, so those don't count as an on screen option.
So, you can have your heart rate, time, and distance on the screen all at once. You would be missing pace, but the instant pace isn't accurate enough to really use, and if you really need constant updating, just set your watch to give you quarter mile splits or something shorter.
Seriously, there is no need to scroll through the screens mid-run.
