Hey Guys,
Any idea what the standard is to be classified as an elite and possibly get a hotel comp for this race? In particular the womens marathon?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Why don't you email the the Elite Coordinator?
They are REALLY stingy and it will likely take multiple emails to get them to even reply to you. I don't know what their standards are but don't expect much.
Really now? I've never had to send more than one email regarding any of my athletes. They have been very cooperative. Course we normally only ask for a comp.
The Competitor Group is no friend of the elite athlete. They've turned a slew of good races with good prize money into for-profit jogathons. As the above poster correctly pointed out, they're stingy. The elite competition is treated as an afterthought.
for the most part, they don't have a true Elite athlete program for Rock N Roll AZ. Last year they brought in a couple of speedsters for the half mainly, but no real Elite program. But they do give comp's from time to time---Matt Turnbull is a great guy, and although they have changed their biz plan since it went from Elite to Competitor Group, he still goes to bat to ensure there are some great Elite fields (see Philly in a couple of weeks). Yes, they're not as deep as in the past, but they still support competitive running in some form, which is always a good thing...and even just a couple years back they did the Running Down a Dream program which brought in 50 gals to make a last minute attempt to qualify for the Trials. So yes, its different, but they still get some BIG names to toe the line from time to time.
rock n roll does not care about elites or aspiring elites. good luck
If you have no luck getting a free room from the race organizers you might want to try and contact one of the local running clubs. They just might have a member that would offer you a free room . Try and track down someone that is invovled with the Bandido running club out of Scottsdale.
Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the helpful replies. I will try and contact the elite organizer. I was hoping for an idea of the times it might take to get a hotel room comped before I sent an email to the elite director.
Bull - Mike Long treated me and my runners very well, as does Matt, I've never had Matt turn my requests for a comp down. However, it may be that I don't send a request email with any entitlement in mind. I simply ask if it's possible. Last week I emailed for a runner who just finished at Arkansas who wanted to run a fast 1/2 marathon....one email, one comp entry...
Hey garyb,
You seem to maybe know the answer to my question? Are your runners getting hotel rooms comped or just the entry? I am assuming you deal with these guys on a semi regular basis thus probably making it easier for you as you have a connection. I am looking for no entitlement but as a person with no connections asking for a comped hotel room for a random women marathoner. Thanks for your help.
sub 2:37 is deservin of a hotel room.
sub 2:40 has a chance if it is a weak year.
Over 2:40 is being greedy and is not deserving 0f anything beyond a comp'd entry
What would it be for a guys compd entry

I just came across this today. It is from 2010. Good call, road rashed!
