Greg Metcalf opens his mouth again, BS comes out

If Metcalf is so bad, how does he continue to get these unbelievable recruiting classes. Washington isn't exactly a Harvard-type academic draw?

The year they won he did a great job putting himself and the school out there. He was all over flotrack with interviews and videos. That is going to draw some kids in, but only for a short period of time. If they don't produce consistently than the top level kids will stop going there.

Kelly Strong was largely responsible for recruiting. She'as at Cal Poly SLO, so time will tell what kind of girls UW can recruit.

I couldn't even vote for the Cal Poly women's team on the Letsrun preseason poll. Whats up with that. In 3 years they will be a top 10 program.

That sounds very professional to me. Do you want the entire sport to be as boring and PC as possible? There's no harm done and he's not insulting her or badmouthing her. He's just shedding a little light on the situation.

It sounds to me like Pete Watson is the one with some explaining to do....

UNC doesn't really have a food allowance, she was a great pick up.

I just took an amazing dump, had to flush more then once, feel much better now.

It is one thing to have a Kelley Strong to recruit top athletes, but quite another for Metcalf to coach them into oblivion. Without Strong last year, Washington's women's squad went into a nosedive. I do feel for the new group of female HS athletes who cast their lot with the UW this year. Any bets on the number of injuries, defections over the next 2-3 years?

How did those new freshmen do at the Washington State meet on Friday? Point 1: they are unproven freshmen; Point 2: I hope you don't take this wrong, but the new freshmen might be from small towns, or might not realize that there are 22 other really good runners on the team.

I live in the Seattle area, and around here it is considered near ivy league. Not saying it's true, but that is a common belief around here.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Seattle people have a certain "opinion" about how cosmopolitan, ivy league they are. In reality, it is a large, congested city, with great scenery, and a good university. We newcomers are generally happy here (though the rain depresses), but are sometimes amused at how highly Seattle people think of themselves.

Dude's a good recruiter, questionable coach. He's wasted a lot of WA talent over the years. Plus the greasy hair and used car salesman persona is a downer.

This guy has it right. While he as been getting better than he was 10 years ago, I have watched a lot of local talent go to the U and end up not progressing in the slightest bit in four years. Just stagnating.

And as for McNamara, I always wondered if that was a grades issue, as he did end up at Lane. Then again I've seen others that transfer out of a 4 year to go Lane so they can move up to Oregon after.

mcnamera was a grades issue. he had eligibility issues at auburn-riverside too. doesn't change the fact that tons of talent goes to uw, and dies... or pops one year of promise before fading out.

anyone know if metcalf is coaching garner as he tries to come back?

Never knew so many people who NCAA titles were around to complain about him.

I can't make a dresser either, but it certainly doesn't stop me from being able to tell if one is poorly built.

Wow! There are a lot of people out there with some serious anger! It would be nice if these type of people would try and lose the judgemental angst and take a deep breath and stay off these forums. The new freshmen at the UW are in great hands with three great coaches: Drake, Denfeld and Metcalf. The naysayers should keep their mouths shut and go for a long run!

Excuse me! I'll have you know the UW is one of the best colleges in the whole state of Washington!
