i heard that he had eye surgery and was coming back he was listed on the beach to beacon race...
He had a weird thing with his eye where one eye brown was always raised...
He had surgery recently.
He was one heck of a runner... the guy was a horse..
after a 12:54 he went out and ran 59:17 for the half. He would have been a great marathoner..but his career went into a tailspin.

he was rally tallented guy. you can see 2.08 marthon is not an easy one. he had been seek for long period of time.

Really sad, remember him dominating a great north run in spectacular fashion and he always up front in contention when he ran on the road. Great runner he was. RIP

roomed with Dejene a few years ago at the Pittsburgh 10K..VERY nice guy, humble as it gets. Very sad to hear of his passing, GREAT man, GREAT runner.

It is sad that Dejene Berhanu has passed.
My Dad's brother died at age 19 from what the doctors said was a minor operation on his ear.
He died from the surgery, which devasted the family. He was my Dad's younger brother, and my Dad never got over the loss.

i was expect him to run 2.05 something like that.
what can you do if you do not have peace at home things will turn up side down.
Sad to hear. He was at his best at the same time as Bekele and Tadesse, so he didn't get the accolades he probably deserved. RIP
my house is not far from dejene's house. he was a humble guy
Beyond sad. One of the most caring, "deep", runners I have known. Heart of gold, and an incredible athlete as well. sub 13, sub 1 hour, three time winner of Carlsbad 5K, Great North Run...all against loaded fields. But he was a very caring and insightful man, and must have hit the end of his rope. RIP Dejene, you'll be missed by many.
